I may be wrong but I think it has to do with your light source for shading so if its a harsh light source you would have hard shadows or also called the terminator shadow iirc but if the light source is soft then you would also have soft shadows transition softly into the light areas. that's my guess on how to do it hope this helps.

Hallo guys, been 6 days now.
My Laptop which also powered my Wacom died last week.
It's getting repaired at the moment but I don't know how long that will take with all the shit going on at the moment.
So yeah I will resume as soon as I get the chance ^^

Hey guys, after a little more than 1 month I return to finally continue the journey.
My laptop is finally repaired but they needed to reset it completely, that means I lost all my files I drew over months. Didn't save anything on a USB or Cloud (My bad).
Like in art, you learn by mistakes

Today I continued where I was last time and drew more ears.

I think it's time to slowly move on to the nose ^^

Moved on to noses and.....they are really hard, that tells me I need to learn them atleast for a couple of days before moving on.
As I move on through all these drawings I really notice that I get better each time, I also feel like trying newer things and get inspired by them ^^
I'm really satisfied with the bottom right nose, teached me a lot about rotating and getting the angle right aswell as shading the whole nose.

More noses. Most of them are from reference, and the last raw is inspired by sinix. Rotating them is really really hard so I'm gonna try to focus on that next.

Hey guys ^^
This is the first time I tried shading with colour instead of greyscale/value.
Couldn't work on this page last week because of my booster vaccination (Didn't expect it to throw me in the bed for 4 days straight)
Probably gonna treat the lips the same as the nose and stay here till I have a good grasp of it.

Don't mind the colours near the lips btw, I'm trying to more accurately guess the color, color pick the real photo and see how off I was.

New lips and new stuff learned. Trying to get more bold with my shading and it turned out pretty good I think.
Going to spend 1 more week on lips to really get the hang of it.

Back again with more lips, I didn't finish all of them this week because of time.
The bottom left is wip and I have 3 more planned for this page.
For some reason my brain is more concerned about the "3D" rendering than the actual structure learning of the lips. Still trying to get over it somehow.

Stuff I want to learn / do (or get better) in the future:
- General Shading (Realistic)
- Cel Shading
- More drawings from imagination
- Light and Shadows
- Observation
- Dedicate more time to drawing

Finished the one from last week and one that I had planned.
I always stumble upon new challanges and things I didn't know about.
Still trying to improve my shading and the structure of the lips at the same time.

Page done.
Scrapped the ones I had planned and made a final lip with a "semi" realistic shading.
Copied the lineart for the before and after comparison.
I shaded this one a lot more loosely which resulted in a nice balanced looking final image, I will definitely keep this in mind when I move on and explore it a little more.

My art glove has also finally arrived a few days ago, it's a lot more comfortable and has a really nice feeling to it when drawing.

I really like the shapes you use and the last pair of lips look really solid. The highlights were very well done.
I feel like there's a little too much detail in the teeth that's distracting from the lips. Also, taking away from the line art might make the forms pop a little more.
Hopefully you don't mind, but I did a small paint-over to help show what I'm talking about. Hope this helps!

Yeah the teeth ;D I put a little bit of purple at some spots to make it more interesting.
Seeing it know, it does look distracting a bit. I will keep that in mind for next time.

I don't mind at all, I definitely know what you mean.
I tried experimenting with the lineart not long ago, like Coloring it at some spots and deleting it at the points where light hits.
It looks really good if done well, so thank you for pointing it out here, I will try to do something with this the next time I draw.

Finally started the eyes today.

Trying to remember all the important terms for today.
I actually did not plan to shade today but I did it anyway because it felt like I would waste time doing nothing.
Tomorrow I will try to only shade with brush density instead off opacity + brush density. Idk if thats better or not, but I heard it's something worth trying out.

Ahh yes, I remember the eyes. Your skill looks above mine quite a bit, but maybe I can still help on one note.
One thing you may consider is that the eye lid has a thickness about that of a quarter. I think it looks like you may have some thickness on your upper eyelid, but the bottom eye lid looks paper thin, if that makes sense. it almost looks like the eye lid is not sitting against the eye but is drooping off it a bit.
But overall this is really good work! I hope to achieve your skill here someday soon

You will most certainly get in my tier of skill someday, I still have so much more to learn it can be very overwhelming sometimes.

I noticed it while drawing that I didn't give the bottom eyelid any thickness at all, so I decided to let it be but definetely keep it in mind for the next one.
The reference didn't really show thickness either so maybe thats why I didn't think of it in the first place.

My plan was to check out Sinix Design and look up his video of eyes. Maybe that will help with some of errors still remaining.

Hey guys, I hope everyone has a great day or night.
First Eye finished, I will be filling this page up with a couple of eyes and then do 1 to 3 more pages of eyes to really improve my shading and anatomy.
I definitely noticed how long eyes take to draw, especially when just starting out.

Still trying to find a shading style I like, but that comes with experience I hope.
