Maissae - Art School Journey

Hello everyone!

I've started my art journey pretty much at the end of 2012. Back then I barely could draw a stick figure. I aimed to become an artist and work in the industry. You may wonder, why am I here then, after so many years? I haven't gotten far. Within that time frame I had a lot of long pauses. They took months and even years in some cases. There were various reasons for them. Mainly life, school, work, lack of time and laziness. Also trying to improve too fast, setting unreasonable expectations and studying without having fun with art, burned me out (multiple times).

But this ends now! Having more time and getting my interests back in art, I decided to return to it and give it another chance. Although mainly for hobby and just having fun this time! I stumbled upon Marc's art long time ago and lately I've found out about his Art School. Naturally I joined the club! I'll be posting here my progress through the terms and maybe also beyond! I'll be glad to accept any advice and critique!

I'm using my old trusty Wacom Cintiq 13 HD (DTK-1300) and Surface Pro 7 for most of the work.

First assignment for pen control down. That was quite a fun warm up after a while without drawing at all. More updates coming soon!

Another exercise from the first set. I feel like each part of it was more and more difficult. The last one was incredibly challenging. I tried to balance each color separately with Hue/Saturation, before using other tools to get things a bit closer to result. I'm far from being close to it, but that was my best attempt from all of them.

Another exercise down. It was an interesting one. Picking out good pictures to combine is not as easy as I thought it would be. Perspective, position of the light source and shadows on them can easily make things look out of place. Anyway I tried my best, but it still looks a bit out of nowhere. 😋

Apples this time from the 4th exercise. I think I overdid the burn and dodge tool in some places, but it seems to still look half decent (i think...).

More exercises and work done. That was a fun remainder of photoshop and I learned couple of new things about it as well. Especially the healing brushes. Time to move on to fundamentals 😀

Been a while since I posted an update! Been busy watching the next part of the term on figure drawing. I started my daily routine, however since it takes a little time, I split it in parts and stretched over few days. For now I focused more on drawing over references to see if I can place cylinders and simplified skeleton properly in relation to landmarks. On some of those more static poses it's a bit difficult sometimes to see how oriented arm or leg can be, is it completely flat for the camera? Or maybe tilted slightly and there should be some perspective included. Feel free to point out any mistakes! More things coming soon.
