New joiner - Art school - Needed material

Hello,
I put my artistic sense aside for years and would really like to come back to it for my pleasure.
I have discovered recently Marc's Youtube channel some days ago and really was pleased to see the quality and simplicity of the shared videos.

I'm new here and will probably apply for the Art school for digital artists.

However, I have a question about the prerequisites: Gimp is a very advanced design tool (as well as Blender if a 3D toll is required). I see Krita as mentioned design painting tool.
I am fan of open source tools and I just wonder if I can follow the courses only with those tools or if I will need to purchase Photoshop, Sai and so?

The free tools are totally fine to follow along. There is a course showing you sculpting in zbrush but if you can get the basics down in blender, you should be find there. I'm not sure if the other programs have gradient maps but marc shows different coloring methods throughout the course.
Overall the free stuff should be fine.
