Painting armor isn't really that hard as it may seem. Don't rush too early into details, observe how plates interact and have good refs (armor, material, light etc.) Metal study can be useful if you are not familiar with it yet. There are lots of turnarounds on artstation which help with a base and screenshots from games (or anything else) but this one can turn into playing game instead
I try to think more with shapes and break down some parts into planes. I was gradually increasing the amount of details on each work so it is easier to do it now (i will have to simplify it more later) Don't overdo it just a hint of detail often will do a better job
Baldurs Gate is amazing. It gives you a lot of freedom, great characters and story. I love its art and designs. It's worth a try and it finally convinced me to play Divinity which is another gem
