Unzoomed canvas blocking in big shapes while remembering to keep it on separate layers and then refining. I almost immediately see the right colors so it saves a lot of time

I have blender Guru on watchlist just have to find a will to do it after my previous donut perished few months ago

And a painting of moon goddess. High time for something darker

First I had her covering sun but I came across snow moon skinline splash arts from lol and I loved that color palette. I was thinking how to put the red I had something that looked like broken thread of fate but I am not sure about it. it would work if it wasn't unbreakable. I didn't like blood moon. Now I have red light from below that looks interesting. I am wondering whether I should keep the red as magic or turn it into blood. Will have to think more about it

I found a name for her - Enarfiel or simply Narfi. Comes from jotunn Narfi who was father of night. Sun god for now is called Devah meaning divine, heavenly ...I should finally make a painting of him

I should stop wanting my characters to be good because they end up as villains... she was supposed to be the good one but went mad after break up with Sun.
This shows the moment when she regained her strength and comes to destroy Sun empire. She lost her ideals stopped caring about mortals she just wants revenge.

Narfi is lookin ominous! Love the red to blue/dark/lgiht contrast. Found the splash pages you mentioned and I can definetly see the reference.

Well, morality is kind of a matter of perspective after all kill a person, you're a murderer, kill a million, you're a conqueror.

Jokes aside, ambiguity can make for an interesting backdrop. There's a bit of evil in all of us after all, and antiheroes are a lot of fun as well.

My vote is on blood though, as much as I like fantasy, my personal preference is for stuff that is not necessarily magic. I really like when things are more... "real" so to speak, even when magic is involved. For example, Berserk has "magic", but it's mostly the application of knowledge from the different planes, and has some very strict rules to it. I feel it also forces us as artists to get creative with some effects.

Nice portraits. They are very shapely. The gesture drawings look pretty good. Also nice color and grayscale studies.

You could do both, making it into a literal blood moon. Or the character Enarfiel uses blood magic. It's pretty good so far.

So I leaned towards blood and blood magic. Toned down blues to make the blood stand out more. I didn't add so much red as I had in sketch it felt better to have less of it. Added some yellow sparkles this color just seemed right, red ones were too much and blue blended with the rest. Yellows worked with barely visible jewelry.

I couldn't figure out dress so I cut it. She was elegant character but at this stage I think she wouldn't care much about it. Spent a while fixing broken feet. Most of time I fighted with clouds I still struggle with them, I think these came out a bit too dreamy

I thought about making it wide format at one point with bodies of soldiers lying around but it stayed this way

I will try to work on effects and see if I find something else. Black stuff in the front too

So I thought alot about it and it seems that she was going to be a villain from the start. What she does is purely selfish and to satisfy her own needs but she is sure that it is the right way. Narfi was initially good but she couldn't deal with changes and it broke her

Great colors and atmosphere!
Two things I noticed: I think her feet are pulling more attention than you probably intended. The brightness of the grey behind them may be causing too much contrast. Also, her arms seem a teeny bit short.
Overall I love it. Her smooth and well rendered face really stands out against the thick textured brushstrokes in the background.

It looks incredible; the use of textures is really good; I can even bring myself to learn about it; and the edge control to focus on the face is excellent too. In addition, the hue and value are fantastic, directing the eye first to the character and then to the floor

Nice work on the character. I like the texture of the clouds and the blood on the ground. The colors work pretty well.

Fixed arm lenght and darkened mist behind legs. Some tangents needed work, highlights around nose were too big. And changed yellow floating stuff

I've seen Tyler Edlin doing some random strokes and then distorting it in perspective to fit ground, walls etc. I tried doing this here on ground and seems nice and simple

Yo, it looks great! The colors and texture work is really nice. It has like a blur effect but it doesn't seem to actually be blur, just more detail in some parts. It has a gritty look to it. The moon making a halo to highlight her face works really well. Now that I think about it... that seems to be a running theme, with an astral object behind most characters.

That looks better. I didn't notice the arm's length until now. And I like the highlights and blur of the yellow floating particles.

I tried using blur on background but it looks too artificial to my liking. I erased most of it and lowered opacity so the filter is on like 2 small parts of background. Its mostly done with soft brush, some details with smaller soft brush and later all fancy textured brushes. Yellow things on bottom have blur but I reworked them to make them look less digital (I hope)

I had different idea for light from behind it was just a placeholder. I wanted it more undefined shape or covered with clouds. But it looks better, one big shape on flat non detailed area

I just like moons and big circles and lots of my characters are in some way related to those astral objects. Also it works well with composition making it simpler, brings attention to that one point

Great studies! Really looking good! As for the portrait, I am really enjoying what you have so far. I really enjoy the texture of your back ground and how her figure is kind of fading away as you go to the bottom. The overall character looks good (at least to me) really like the facial expression you gave her.

My only question is Are you planning to add something behind her to use up some of that space or is this the general composition that you are going for?

I feel like if this is the whole composition, you might want to move her more into the center of the frame and maybe even crop in on her a bit more. If you are adding things to it, then that would take care of the space issue. Either way, its looking really good, excited to see where you take this piece!

Potrait is looking great! Pretty sure she's lacking some color, but she's already looking really good! Love the expression, kind of sad but not quite.
