It was more like messing around and finding out I haven't saved that full mess of sketches file but I will do another one

I use CSP but I don't have EX version so I will try animating in Krita. I will probably update so I can make all in one place once I get more into it

Characters go in front of the bg for example. say there's a car in the middle and one character is passing in front of it while another character passes the same car from BEHIND it and goes the other direction.

Your layer would be (from the back to the front):

BG - very bottomGuy (lets call him Guy 1) passing BEHIND the car is 1 layer above the bgThe car is in the layer ABOVE Guy 1Guy 2, passing in FRONT of the car, is one layer ABOVE the car.

Idk if that makes any sense.

Those will be your GROUPS. Within your groups you can have as layers as you need..

It makes sense Need to get into habit of naming layers and separating it.

So many layers and everything! I work on as few layers as I can for most of time (before I add a ton of effects) and this is a lot. But I know it is needed for this. Thank you it is nice to see how you are doing it and how it looks

I want to try animation to do something else than paintings all the time. I need some variety and I can't look at blender right now. As I work on a comic I would love to see some of that animated. And well having animated trailer would be cool or pretty much anything

Thank you @daceronine! Earing was pure accident. I went through all textured brushes I have and all blending modes and oh this looks nice!

Your face details have improved significantly

Thank you! I wasn't satisfied with my faces for a while now. I use more refs during the whole process. I used to look at them only during sketch and when I was stuck.

I also love Ayami Kojima works, such gothic themes fit perfectly with Castlevania.

I'm really digging all the designs. Really looking forward to the comic product, seems like it's going to be very fun to go through.

Kojima is one of artists I always use as ref or inspiration while painting. Need to finally finish watching castlevania and play games some day.

Main comic is very high fantasy, lots of elves, magical creatures etc. This one even though it is mostly happening in the same place I want to feel more dark. More gore, darker themes. I love such mood so it will be more than a 'side story' for sure.

Ask the right questions. That's what helped me. Stuck on something? Ask about the right thing and you will find something. Who, what, where etc. And get to know your characters. These are for my comic so I need to know them well and this really helps with design.

Tried animating in Krita. I didn't expect to enjoy seeing that ball bounce so much.

I've been posting for a year on social media so I wanted to redo my first post. I had something else in mind but I couldn't make it work so I did just a portrait. I might look into background again because it looks different as an image.

This was kind of Ayami Kojima study as well. I didn't go for doing one to one but was referencing a lot.. well more than I already do. I had to do a lot of fixes later, mostly around mouth and chin but I think it is fine now

Oy that looks great! I can definetly see Ayami's influence there, especially with the nose, eyes and lips. I do feel the lips in the final potrait ended up a bit more... "squished"? (probably not the right word), just a tad smaller from side to side and more "full" than in the sketch. Ayami's lips are usually smaller up down, and wider left right.

The overall face strucuture is also a bit wider, Ayami's are quite more triangular and thinner.

Which, by the by, doesn't mean you have to match her, since this is obviously your character, just pointing out the little differences in style.

The BG is great though, really contrasts well with the blue. This could easily fit into a Castlevania piece.

Oh thank you! I couldn't tell what's wrong. I redrew lips so many times that I stopped seeing what I was doing. Probably were good on first time and then I started 'fixing'

I wasn't aiming to fully copy Ayami style more like mixing it with what I already have

lolol started watching everything on the playlist and its so nostalgic XD I used to animate everywhere.. now i barely do it cuz my expectations are too high.. back then i just did whatever whenever and had like zero expectations...

Last time I couldn't draw that horn so I broke it (didn't finish that painting) and it added to already tragic backstory. He was in a tight spot and there was noone to save him so he gave into dark power and got a cool eye

Changed lips. I stared at it for so long that I didn't see a difference but I like this one better.

This one was pretty simple. And right now I just copy others and try to do it myself later. It gets harder as I add perspective and other things to it

Need to keep size in mind. When it is in one size I will make it smaller as there are more frames close. Timing and spacing too but no need to take care of everything immediately.
Bottom ones were harder to do but I like how bottom left lands at the end

Had a strong urge to paint this today for no reason. It was a good practice I like how it came out.

Obviously had to paint Shrek as well i didn't expect it to be so hard. So Ignore him he looked much worse earlier. From far he looks fine. I still can't stop laughing. it feels so magical

Great work! When I saw the potrait in instagram, I actually immediately noticed the difference in the lips. I do feel it looks better! It's subtle for sure though.

All animations you guys have done look like a lot of fun! Really makes me want to give it a shot. Alas, too much on my real life plate for now though. Someday.

The shrek piece looks great!! very well done, and very much your style. I really like it! Great colors, combinations and lighting!

for the middle left one (45 degree angle towards camera) it feels like the ball starts bouncing fast but ends slow - imo that change is a bit sudden. less noticable on the one to the right of it tho but still, great job!

I don't know what is up with me this week but I have so much hatred towards myself right now. I can't focus for a longer time, I can't start a painting. I hate all of my works, my style, everything. Again my expectations go too high... it is what it is.

I have all these bad thoughts but still do a lot of work. Lots of studies, lots of writing, designing. Like what I am even complaining about?!

Anatomy studies because something broke in my brain when I tried to clean up some thumbnails.

Mermay thumbnails that I can't clean up. I have more but these are my favourite. I like the bottom right but I don't know what to do with arms. He looks at the boat and is happy to see person in it. I thought about making another where you look at the guy in boat from top

Haven't painted traditionally in a long while and I used gouache only once but I like it. Colors got more saturated on photo. Blue isn't so intense. Values are pretty messed up and it all blends together. But I don't know if I want to fix it I might ruin it and it isn't that bad. I was afraid it will look worse than my last trad painting from last year but it does not. There was one moment when I decided to change whole color scheme mid painting so I glazed it with bright orange and instantly regreted it. I can't even mix such colors why would i do that where undo button

And Narfi portrait.... I don't like it. Overall it feels nice but I just don't like it. I struggled a lot and something is off about it. I can see that something is wrong with the face but I can't tell what. Maybe seeing her in such a light mood feels different. And it was supposed to be 'fun painting to chill'...

Sorry to hear you've been feeling down, but rest assured, your art is amazing!

There could be many reasons one can feel like that, but I think it would be a disservice to try to guess, all I can I say is hope you feel better about it. As you said, next week it's sure to be better!

I guess I can share that when I feel like that (I guess we all do at some point) I usually try to do stuff outside of painting. For me, I play games, as I love playing games, or watching anime. I'll usually also try to put some extra attention on self care, like exercice, diet, extra sleep, getting work done and so on.

The painting with gouch is really nice though! It's "simple", but the color combination and bursh work is really nice. And did I understand right that it's physical? it's GREAT for a physical work.

And the potrait also looks nice! As usual I love the brushwork, and the warm lighting contrast very well with the cool colors. Overall it's just pleasant to look at. I really can't find anything off with the face either.

And Narfi portrait.... I don't like it. Overall it feels nice but I just don't like it. I struggled a lot and something is off about it. I can see that something is wrong with the face but I can't tell what. Maybe seeing her in such a light mood feels different. And it was supposed to be 'fun painting to chill'...

Oh yea the feeling of hating everything you draw is super relatable. As for the painting I think a big part of why it feels off is the huge negative space on the right something is missing in the composition. When I look at the painting I see you made a composition in the shape of the golden spiral but you are missing something to truly draw your gaze from the top right hand corner to the face so your eyes are kinda left looking into the empty space. Now I can see if that was your intention but I think it needs something to draw your eyes to Narfi's face which is the focal point of your image. You could put her hand or make her hair flow into the stars more or something in that ball park I found this awesome video explain the golden spiral in more detail

Narfi looks great! to push it even more, you could have the hair flowing upwards to flow with the curve up

I'm starting to feel better

Went back to it. I don't hate it that much anymore. Sprinkled it with love I couldn't find before. They look cute together shame I divorced them. And it is nice to see Narfi as a happy non bloodcraving goddess she once was.

I merged it instead of changing individual. Did some liquify on face. Added a bit of glow behind Narfi as Devah has big white halo. And added more details to hair

Studies! Continuing with anatomy. I try to pay more attention how movement of one thing affect the rest. Like poking shoulder/hip that way. Arrows are to show which hip goes up and where weight is distributed because I tend to forget about it. I still hate arms and backview... but we will get this!

And another mermay sketch. An innocent curious girl picking up everything she finds in sunken ships. I had this palette with light mood but I automatically go for dark blues/purples. Amulet emits some dark power and she is hypnotised. She should look at that thing and not hand. And maybe she could hold it higher. I still want to use the sketches from earlier but I like colors here
