Gotcha, I don't think there's anything wrong with using the tools you have at your disposal XD I'm pretty sure the old masters used rulers and tracing light through tiny holes projected onto a canvas and whatnot. If they were here today they would use EVERYTHING digital has to offer haha

I don't mind using some tools from time to time to enhance learning but I do understand how important it is not to be too reliant on them. That is why when i start getting into the more painterly stuff, I'll try to get some proficiency with a basic brush before dabbling with anything else.

I am not keen on AI art either, at first seeing it did dishearten me but after taking time to reflect it makes me even more determined to succeed. I am realistic enough to understand it will take a long time but i am passionate about art and want to become a good artist. I am very grateful to this community for giving me advice and helping me improve.

Ahh flipping the canvas! something I always forget about too!

Also it seems like the head ended up at a little bit different angle than the reference, which stuck out to me because I always do that too, and I'm trying to figure out why I do that and how to avoid it.

good work though, I don't see any other big issues. and yes great line work!

Try constructing the head as a sphere for the basic ball. On that draw two lines that follow the circumference - one for the brow line (following where the top of the orbits would be) and one for the symmetry line (dissecting the nose, lips and glabella on half)

The intersection of those lines is the glabella, the keystone shaped indent between the orbits where the nose would start. Finding this you will be able to get the direction much easier

I normally do that but sometimes i do have a tendency to rush so observed rather than used a lot of construction, something i am trying to overcome. I wasn't happy with it enough to attempt it again, they are still issues with this piece but overall i felt that the head looked a bit better. @snakker
