Hello Everyone, my name is Ruben a music graduate and now currently working at a video game/tec store. Here i would be posting all my assignments so I can get some feedback in order for me to improve, I would like to be a concept artist/illustrator working within the video games industry. Currently I have been working on an First Person Puzzle Platformer with a friend of mine and drawing some concept art for him. This is the kind of work I am producing as of today hopefully I could drastically improve my skills as a digital artist by studying with all you guys on this art school Journey.

I dont really have a fixed routine with how Im going to get through the terms but as i have a lot of free time due to being out of work for a while I am looking into studying on a daily basis.
For my first lesson I chose to do the photoshop for digital production course (please let me know if there is meant to be a specific order as it looks like you can just choose any lesson within that term)
This is how i did.

Welcome @rubengardiner1992,

Nice updates there. And really nice character you worked on. Congrats!
No specific order needed actually for the first part (or at least I'm not doing in order).

I hope you enjoy the terms!

Cheers,

Thanks for the warm welcome, and ill just carry on doing any order then.

Heyho Ruben!
Welcome on board! I really like that character you designed, great work!
Definetly keep us updated on your work!
Best,
Mau

So today I worked on finding the horizon line in general images i have found using google maps. I found it harder than i thought I thought it was going to be, but i will continue practicing this throughout the week thr

Then I moved onto creating block shapes using bone point perspective. I didnt want to just do simple blocks so i figured i added some intricate rounded edges to some of the shapes.

For my one point perspective i tried going with the same futuristic theme as Marc Brunet. This piece took me a good few hours. I am relatively happy with the final outcome. Now onto the 4th assignment of perspective!

For my last assignment in the Perspective lesson I made a medieval aged house using 2 point perspective. I found the roof especially tricky to get the right angle. I also didn't do a great job of the painting as I accidentally painted on the same layer as my line layer (it was too late to undo when i realized about the mistake :frowning: )

Hey buddy!

I took the liberty of tracing a few lines and correcting a few things I saw as problematic with your drawing.

For the size of this drawing, your vanishing points are extremely close. This means that the topmost part (the roof) is outside of the zone where perspective lines would meet at a 90deg angle. This makes the distortion extremely awkward and hard to manage because as you draw the construction boxes, they won't look "right". I created a few construction lines on the roof and the roof you drew does not add up to the vanishing points you set.

Second of all, once you've got boxes in place (such as the main body of the building), create diagonals to find the center of these boxes. This allows you to find the middle and space out details with great accuracy. An example of this (in orange) are the windows you placed, and that center beam, which does not line up with the true center of the box.

Hope it's not too much to handle! I recommend trying another building with either vanishing points that are further apart, or simply shorter as to remain within that 90deg. magic zone.

Cheers!

Thank you soo much for the help, i was finding the roof extremely weird and never knew exactly how i should go on about doing it. Im going to retry this picture with your suggestions and post it, once again thank you for this.

Today I have been started working on my anatomy work. For the first assignment i traced the basic construction lines. Im still unsure where the joints are specifically fore the pelvis expecially at an angle that is to the side.

14 days later

I had to take a bit of a break as I were moving house this week but I am now back to my anatomy studies with tracing cylinders on references

Today is going to be my last day of Term 1 exercises. I decided to do a 2 point perspective exercise today and later on going to do some gesture drawing.

Just started Term 2 and really excited to the lessons to come, My first assignment in this Term was to make a Logo. I decided to make a video game logo for a generic fantasy style game.
