Thank you! At first I didn't understand your advice, but now I do: the lines for the legs that should be diagonal look too horizontal, and the ones that are horizontal actually don't follow the same line so one is higher than other.

One more practice. I started doing the "block construction" (as in using cylinders and blocks to create a basic mannequin). For now I'm just drawing on the model, but after that I add one extra practice: I use the mannequin to draw the same body. With some differences, they look similar.

I also did some perspective practice. I wanted to draw a lamp, but I couldn't make the circles right, so I stepped back and did just circles using the method from the lesson. It took me a long time and trial-and-error to understand how it worked (I was adding one additional line that made my circles look "square-ish"), but I finally could do it (somehow)

My goal for now is finishing Term 1 by the end of the month and jump onto Term 2. Let's see if I can make it work!

For the room, I didn't add the details, just did the basic structure. So today I put some time into adding details...
I wanted to go for a childish/magical theme, but I'm not sure I got it...

Nice room, I like all the details! I would suggest though putting a little space between the desk and chest and the walls, so it doesn't look like they're crammed up against the wall.

More perspective today (I also did gesture and figure practice). I tried doing Clodsire in perspective, the first one is a bit weird, but for the second one, I first drew the shape on the base and worked from there. Also, a 2-point perspective building (I didn't know what any other details I could add).

As I'm deciding to move to Term 2 soon, I'm checking old figure practices. This time, I did 3 gesture practices, but now taking 1 minute per drawing. I'm not sure if there is something I should try to improve (aside from being faster because sometimes I can't finish in time)

I know the first one was the worst, and that's why I checked the video again. After that, I decided to first draw the torso and the hips before drawing the body.

These last days I have focused a bit more on doing "chibi practice". I was playing a game and the characters were chibi and I was like "I think I understand their measurement... I'll just try it". And well, it ended up being 3 pictures.

And today I did a new perspective practice, the same as the room, but this time I tried a stage (for the letters I just drew over the reference). I took some references and it's a mix of different things.

Good work on these figure drawings.. One suggestion I have about gesture drawing is that you shouldn't constraint yourself to the outline or contour of the body. Make the gesture more flowy and follow the motion of the body rather than the outline of the body

Thank you for the advice! Can you check these? I tried doing them more "flowy", but I'm not sure if this is what you mean. Like I try to follow the motion (although most of my references are just standing), but I feel I always end up doing the contour

I finally decided to move to Term 2 (and so, I removed "Term 1" from the title of this post so it covers the whole course). And I'm staring with Anatomy (at first, I thought of Photoshop, but I'm just too excited to learn to draw heads XD).

So first it says that I should practice overlapping cubes and cylinders, so I did some of them. I don't really get the purpose (aside from differentiating which elements are in front of others), but it was fun. I still don't know shading, but I will watch Marc's videos to understand it better.

And then, I draw some circles for the head, just the circles. I tried pointing them at some weird directions, I don't know if they are OK

Hi, hope you're having a great week, well when you tackle anatomy, or anything really, it can be quite daunting, so we try to simplify stuff with simple volumes as a base to make thing easier on ourselves, the better you are in these simple overlapping volumes the easier other things will become.

Try to take things a bit further for a bit of extra challenge, make these volumes interact with eachother, no need to shade or anything, just make then be one inside the other and try to make the edges in the connections disappear, try to deform these volumes too, it's VERY challenging but if you want to improve challenge is the word, but know your limits tho, if it's too hard tone it down a bit, i did a quick example, hope you don't mind

Just so you know, you're doing great so far, keep at it

Thank you so much for the explanation! I knew that, after overlapping, I will do connections, but I didn't see the relation between them. Now I understand: you first overlap the volumes and then connect them so they look as one piece together. It makes sense now, thank you!

I'm trying doing deformed volumes, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Should I start doing the ends of the volume and then connecting them, or it's better to draw one end, then the body and finally the second end? Anyway, this is what I got so far.

UPDATE: I also did more head practice and I finally got the sides right! I was doing the side ellipse smaller, so the line for the chin was always small and my heads looked like they had small jaws. I watched the lesson again and noticed the ellipses were bigger, so just did like
that and now my heads look more like... heads!

I had to imrovise in the last one to make a head from the side, I guess this is okay?

Looks about right, the bottom left one looks squished 😅
As for proportions it really helps to make the circle and ellipse as close to perfect as possible and making the side plane centered and two thirds the larger circle - I ,ist say, that can be easier said than done. I see david finch just pad and pad that initial circle in a very sketchy way at first then smudge/erase it down a lot and draw over, also you could block it out at first using cubes

Thank you! I try to make circles in one line and I have to repeat a lot of times because most of them don't look like circles. But for the ellipses, I do them little by little, so maybe I could try doing circles the same way.
And the bottom left one... I still have to experiment a bit. I guess the ellipse must be "cut in half" to better calculate the lenght of the jaw, but I don't know if the eyebrow line and the half of the ellipse must always meet or not.
