Hi guys!
First time posting on Cubebrush!
Wanted to start this thread here showing some of the work I do. I'm a freelance character artist based in Berlin, doing work for games, toys, figurines and more...
Mostly I'll be posting sculpts and realtime stuffs, so if that's yo thang you might find some stuff you like

Let me start out with something I did some weeks ago for a client:
This was actually printed (1m tall!!!) and a mould was made to be casted in a mystery material again!
Soon I'll be able to tell everyone what the purpose is and I think you'll like it!!!

Anyway I liked the sculpt a lot and decided to make a render of it in Modo, hearing so many great things about the renderer. And yes, these came out in under an hour! (only minimal post was applied and only a weekend was spent trying to figure out the renderer! I've had worse...)

And here's a picture of one of the printed pieces.

I also wanted to show you guys my latest artwork.
It started out as a summer character workshop with Lee Devonald but it turned out I needed more than just summer for this baby. It was my first realtime character in a while and needed to polish up on some stuff - like pbr and Substance in general. I learned a lot and documented most of my findings in a thread on Polycount. Don't wanna cheat on cubebrush here but I do want to share with you.

Concept is by Meomai (Jessica Madorran). Her work is super cute and always well designed. Check her out!

For the sake of starting a new thread here there's also some WIP images included in this long-ass post

Hope you like it!

Only rougyhness and metalness maps below!

And the flat shaded version below;

I also went ahead and rigged her completely in Maya. This was - except for the skinning - one of the faster steps and really fun to see her come alive!

And if you wanna give her a spin here's the Sketchfab version:

Here's some images from before the rigging and posing, where I was nearly finished (yes we're going back in time!!!)

Below the version with ONLY normals. Baked in Substance Painter (viewed in Toolbag)

And some topology madness for the fanboys. That hair was a challenge, let me assure you

And last but not least; the finished Zbrush sculpts! I did went back to the hair to add very fine detail (for the specular and normals to give a better effect)

So, on to the next one!
Thanks for checking it out :sunny:

Amazing start to a blog and welcome to Cubebrush :cb: Both of these are really awesome and the one thing that stands out to me the most is the hair for both of them. The shape and design of both of them are really well done. The folds in the first sculpt you posted are fantastic. Did you use a reference for each of the different parts; hair, clothes, face, etc? Or were somethings done from imagination? The picture with the first sculpt being 3d printed looks awesome. Not sure if any details were lost but it looks good to me. If you had your character in Marmaset toolbag 3, you should be able to drag and drop the file in the text box where you make replies so everyone can view it on here to see other details. Example of how it would look like here Again fantastic work. Seeing the progress on polycount was awesome. You can clearly see where the feedback helped you among other things. I will be following this blog as I look forward to seeing more of what you can do.
Lastly, if you don't mind, can you give me some feedback on a design I'm working on in my sketchbook if its not too much of an hassle. Would love some insight from a 3D artist. Link here.

Woah, this is quite awesome. Really looking forward to more sculpts!

Hi Malcom,
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Yeah I love sculpting hair, it's so soothing!!!

For the first girl, the white one, yes I used reference but not all that much (guilty  ). I had a photo of how the client wanted the pose to be and adjusted that so it could work with assembling (pretty huge) 3D printed pieces. The hair was on the photo but again we adjusted for the needs of the client, and I really just did something. (I don't know why but sculpting hair comes really naturally for me) For the clothing and pose I put on a similar dress myself, tried to pose on my shabby kitchen table like I thought it should look (realized some things were wrong in my blockout as it wasn't comfortable to sit like that at all) and let my boyfriend take photo's. I couldn't use the photo's for the dress very much since it had a completely different texture, so I just looked at the flow and direction of the folds and kept that in mind. I did use them to see how my arms looked in that particular pose. I know a thing or two about anatomy but some reference is always better.

Man, I've seen the whole thing put together and it's supercool. I think I can share it around september  such long wait... There's not much details lost as it wasn't a super detailed sculpt to begin with, and it was done by a crazy good printer. Also the size really allowed for finer detail to get printed... (1m!)

I have the Baker in MarmoSet sure, but it's way too heavy to make a viewer of... It has 70k polys, and 3texturesets with 4k textures, 2 with 512. Thats....(calculating)....a lot.
That's why I put up a Sketchfab version! Doesn't look as great but it's doable. Maybe you overlooked it?

Thanks again, guys!

WOW that's awesome. September is to long :disappointed: But I look forward to seeing everything in the end. :+1: This kind of stuff interest me so it's always cool to see. Yes, I must have totally overlooked it. Regardless awesome work. I wish hair came easy to be. It's one of the hard things for me the grasp.

9 days later

I made a quick edit to your post. For some reason when putting a twitch link directly here, It won't show up. I will check out the stream whenever you go live again and if I'm free.
Good start so far. Look forward to more progress. By the way I want to thank you again for the feedback you gave me. It really helped.

I'm not into 3D but these sculpts are looking awsome! I definitly love how the cupcake lady turned out.
Cant' wait to see more!
