To make clear I'm not a pro or anything, but I have seen many tutorials and people do it in many different ways. Some people like V shapes instead of ovals hips, some like to use boxes to do basically everything and etc. If I would give an advice it would be: Do at least one time like the tutorial to get to know the landmarks and relationships. Once you know them, you can evolve your own style of doing the grid.
