Hi all!

My name's Christina, and I've had ART School for a little while now, but haven't gotten the chance to really kick myself into gear until recently haha. I'm a hobbyist artist for the most part and looking to level up, become more than a hobbyist, and get into comics/creating my own IPs (but honestly, who isn't wanting to make their own stuff right?). Looking forward to learning with everyone!

Here are the first couple Photoshop assignments that I did. My circles are wonky as hell... and I've read on other posts that putting a piece of paper down on the tablet (I use an Intuos) would help? I might try again later. Also, I feel like my eyes are really bad with spotting the difference between darker colors, 'cuhz I could never get them quite right... Any tips on how to get better with that would be much appreciated!

Again, looking forward to learning with everyone! Thanks in advance for your time!

Oh! And I saw this in the forums and thought it was a great idea (but that topic wasn't touched for like, a year? So I wasn't sure how active it was). If anyone wants to be accountability partners for classes/assignments, that would be really awesome!

I plan on doing a class a week (so roughly one term a month), watching the class on Fridays and finishing one class' assignments before watching the next class (if that makes sense) :open_mouth:

So if anyone's interested, please let me know!

hello!
I dont think putting a piece of paper on ur intous helps coz intous alrdy has this texture to it. What really helped me was getting one of those gloves that ppl use for those drawing monitors as it allows your hand to move more smoothly.. i guess thats what paper does.. prevents ur hand from sticking. So id say try both and see what makes more sense to you
If u dont wanna waste money on the glove u always can wrap around some smooth material around ur hand to see how it works.

Well done assignments as well!
and in terms of how to spot right values - all it takes just practice ;D
so keep it up!

Yep! Digital Artist glove is a must for getting your lines much cleaner almost instantly. I was silly recently when I lost mine and grabbed a variety of em at different prices. I noticed very little difference and my hands are huge, so gloves are often an issue for me.

This link is to a box of 6 for 10$ they are just fine, and just about identical to the more expensive options that are around 20$ for one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KZDHLRF/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Really handy things. I hope you find someone to work along side, having the motivation to do the work is good.

Might I suggest that you set a hard goal for yourself to submit an assignment per week to Marc's Saturday Facebook art stream? That way your buddy is everyone!

Oh... Maybe I should invest in a glove then  My hands are usually really dry, so I didn't think I'd have an issue with sticking to the tablet, but it could just be that I don't notice it OTL

Thanks for taking the time to give me feedback!

Oooh! Thanks! I'll definitely check those out! (6 for $10?! That's amazing!).

And hmm! That is a good idea, maybe I will try submitting assignments to the stream :open_mouth: I can never get up in time for them though... (I live in Japan, so the streams happen at like 6 or 7 AM for me OTL)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Keep in mind that you can also watch the stream after the fact, I am very often doing something with my kids on Saturdays around when the streams are, so I post up my question and then come back to watch the stream that evening. It works out pretty well, just make sure that you attach enough specific information so that Marc knows exactly what you are asking because you won't be able to answer any questions he might ask mid stream.

Oh! I didn't even think about doing that; you're doin' it right haha. Thanks for the tip!
