Hey guys this is my first attempt of the figure drawing assignment. Here on this post, I will update my assignment through your feedback and my own personal reflection during my learning process to help others as well as myself.

The poses with out the skeleton won’t have completely accurate anatomy due to me not watching the anatomy video yet, will update this post after though.

Encountered Difficulties

I’m used to drawing curvy female figures, slender ones though are a challenge to get right. The lack of curves makes the figure look stiff and lifeless in my eyes and not quite sure how to correct it.

Also some poses I picked are hard to visualise the placement of the lines.

Any ideas?

Anything else you can spot that needs fixing?

Would love to hear feedback from you guys on how I can improve with tips, techniques, brushes, settings etc.

Hey AndyDB!
Hope you don't mind if I redline, I'm not particularly good at explaining with words and seeing things visually always helps me. A handful of your practices have a line of action that resembles an S. Going off of whats said in the video, standing poses don't' have a pronounced curve but they not straight either. Since this is a nude figure drawing portion, perhaps take a look at some nude stock photos and practice lines of actions and cylinders on those. To alleviate your issue with stiff poses on petite figures, perhaps add the curve that goes along with the joints in the photo reference.

Hey AndyDB, nice job on those figures. You got those action lines and cylinders pretty neatly! As critique I would say: try to focus less on the contour of the figure. Focus instead of simplifying the forms to simple basic shapes (cylinders, boxes, ovals, with various proportions) and construct a figure with those using the action lines as a guide. As to the 'stiffness' you mention, that could be related to not using enough gesture in the limbs. Use flowly curves rather than straights for those limbs. When you construct your body parts on top of that, the figure will naturally 'stiffen' out a bit anyway. By having a tad more curvy gesture lines you can compensate for that to avoid overly stiff characters. Anyway keep it up! Looking forward to seeing you progress.

Update 1

Thanks for the feedback guys 😁 I tried Drawing the line from the middle of the collarbones like you did @fayerian and it really did help me see the whole drawing in a different way. @Ardeey I thought about what you said I was able to add more simple shapes to guide my placement. For example I added a triangle and used it’s points towards the breast nipples and the centre of the collarbones. So far this strategy has proven quite useful in linking it up correctly.

Below is my gesture line practice and my basic figure construction, hopefully I’m getting closer to what you guys are talking about 😋.
