Hi everyone,

Been a while since I last posted. I started term 3 with the anatomy class. Been working on the torso construction for a couple of weeks now and here is what I have so far.

I wouldnt say its getting easier but I am starting to understand where I have gone wrong in the past when drawing a torso. I am by no means done with this, I'm going to keep at it and again any criticism is greatly appreciated.

Admittedly I haven't gotten this far in art school, but from what anatomy I do know, these look great. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! It's funny once I have an order down of how to approach something it made it a lot simpler. At the beginning of the class I was worried I wouldn't be able to remember it all. To be fair this is just the torso we got the rest of the body to go yet lol.

Where are you up to Art School? Do you have a thread, would love to check out your work?

Alex

Having a process definitely helps, and anatomy does seem to be a daunting subject. Probably why Marc broke it down into several parts for art school. Less daunting that way. lol.

I'm just getting ready to start Term 2. Looking forward to the first anatomy class, and the next perspective class.

Hey dude! Been sneaking a peek and I like what you’ve been doing. I’ve noticed a few things I thought I’d share with you since who knows, they might be useful. Did a bit of drawing on top of your static, front skelly to illustrate my points, hopefully you won’t mind.

So from top to bottom:

The deltoids seem too large. Look at pectorals as a point of reference to see what the right size is; you’ll notice even on my version, they are still on the bigger side.

The latissimus are too hidden. Remember these muscles have a pronounced curve, and when you look at them from the front or 3/4, we should be able to see more of them. I’d say this and the previously mentioned deltoids are the usual suspects in your sketches.

Hips need to expand out to the sides a bit more.

I think a few references might disagree with me on this one, but I feel like the abdominals distribution needs to be pulled up. Lower ab is generally the largest one. Look at the bellybutton to see if it makes sense where you are starting it.

Overall, I’d say you are getting the muscle placement right, but the proportions are hit-or-miss right now. I insist that I think you are doing great, and all I’ve said can be easily worked on and fixed. Keep up the good work .

@Pulpman thank you so much for having a look over my work and taking the time to go through the details. Its great advice!

Yeah if I am honest my abs and delts were what I considered to be my weakest muscles so I know need to work on them. Glad to hear you think its coming along, like I said, I think this is an on going one that I'm going to keep revisiting. Up until now I've just guessed at anatomy rather than studied it so I have a few bad habits to break hahaha

First attempt at clothed figure drawing first assignment. I was just focussing on the fabric and trying to get that to look believable. So again, any crit would be very welcome.

second try - again any comments or crit is very welcome. I'm not as happy with this one. However i messed around with a gradient map for the finish which is my main dislike.

Just had a go at the assignment where you paint clothes onto a figure. Again crit is very welcome. Almost time to move onto some ZBrush!

After last weeks stream I have been working on my values and really concentrating on getting those right. this is my latest attempt at a study for cloths.

Also does anyone have any tips for working on patterns? I kept giving the pattern on the skirt a go but nothing i tried looked right so i ended up just getting rid of that layer lol
