Alright, so working on what the project will be. Got a pre-production idea going right now, so I think I will just flesh out that whole thing here.
So the thought is that farm games are fun, but there are few that are not just Skinner boxes. Stardew and Harvest moon are about it, if anyone knows of any others let me know.
The problem is that those games are just not fleshed out in the way that I like, and they scream multiplayer on a large scale. So expanding on that seems like a blast.
So starting out, the world. The world will be a farming town surrounded by a wall. I don't know why a wall yet, but it needs to be there to constrain the player, and it has plenty of room for story paths and reasons.
There has to be water, because I love fishing, and gotta do what you love.
There should be a city center, surrounded by plots of land that the players can own, and others owned by npcs. A Bunch of related stores.
I'll start there and continue to flesh it out from there.
Also I will certainly be going with the "near sci-fi" setting, freedom of creation and whatnot.
Some thumbnails that I am messing around with for areas I will render them out shortly. I really suck at landscapes, but this project does make me want to improve and it has me thinking a lot more about this little world.
I am positive that I will put the wall into every large landscape shot. I want it to be something that is always a bit in the background, unless of course its the focus.
Expanding off of the dirt mover, what would they use that thing for? Probably digging in a quarry.
This quarry was an attempt by a long gone mayor to dig his way underneath the wall (Which I still need to have some reason why they can't just go over it)
Eventually it became an effort in futility attempting to pump the water out of the quarry fast enough that they could continue to dig deeper. Visible at the bottom of the quarry is a cave that leads to a mine shaft that goes deeper into the earth, but it is of course flooded just the same as the quarry. The forgotten mayor probably dug that mine shaft as well, but how could he do that with all of the ground water constantly filling it back in?
