Yeah i really do need to freshen up on my perspective. Its been a few months since i last made any art. So im EXTREMELY rusty. So im basically starting from scratch. I used to focus on environments but now that im back in, im going to try and work on characters more.

Hopefully you stick around! I actually plan to upload some more figure drawings in a few minutes!

More Figure Drawing!

Im focusing on the male figure right now so that i can understand the proportions without overloading my brain too much.

A lot better! Remember that the closer the subject gets to the camera the bigger it will get. The other thing that I'm noticing is on some of them the balance is a bit off. Make sure the center of gravity is the point of contact, the exception to this is if there is movement.
I really like the archery one!

I should be sticking around, I'm going to start uploading some of my own art soon!

Traveler Design Sketch Practice

SO! I wanted to take what i learned today and test myself.
No reference was used this time, I just wanted to assess my memory.
I personally dont like it that much.
BUT THATS WHAT PRACTICE IS FOR!
-
Character Details:
-Lost both arms and leg in a previous incident
-Replaced them with machines
-Keeps his hand as a necklace to never forget
-Travels solo
-Elf heritage

Seems good, However when making a concept art it's always nice to draw the same character with different poses, angles, and closeups of parts of the body. Just something to keep in mind.

Te figure drawing are great! The lower row in the second figure drawing is especially nice.

It seems strange to me, that you tested what you learned by painting a clothed, still standing figure, plus with limbs missing. Don't get me wrong, the design is nice, but it seems to beat the purpose of doing figure drawings.
Try doing more dynamic poses, people doing crazy things like the ones you see when you practice! And when you stumble upon a pose that you don't know how to do, take notice of what part you are struggling with and concentrate on it extra hard next time you study.

I hope you keep this up, it's great to see a determined person progressing!

On your concept I like the idea! To get some more interesting combos you can try making 3-6 of the same character just changing small things, like clothing, colors, hairstyles ect... you can use the alt key and the move tool to drag drag and duplicate a selection or layer duplicate it without creating new layers.

Also, references are awesome, don't feel bad for using them. Don't copy them, but pay attention to some of the elements in them. For example these are some of the references I'm using for my current project. I can see that you are thinking about why the character has certain features, and that is awesome! Keep it up!

Edit: I forgot to mention the program I'm using for references. It's called PureRef.

Oh! So youre an environment guy! I used to do a TON of environment paintings!
I just recently decided to test my hand at character work after my hiatus.

I need to learn environments better, that's why I'm doing them. Characters are my favorite!

The reference program is really cool. To use it you drag straight from the web or from your computer, you don't have to download at all. So it's really easy to just brows google images for a while, find things you like and break them apart mix match and just draw from the inspiration!

Random Police Officer Designs

I really like cop designs. I just think that they have cool aesthetics.
So i designed a few!

Im still learning anatomy and clothing. But i dont want to lose my creativity.
What are your opinions?

Wow they look really cool! What I do to practice anatomy, is to power through figure drawing. I use many references of poses and try to draw them as quickly as possible, then I go back and refine them with detail. As for the anatomy in your sketches, it's pretty nice in terms of shape however some proportions seem a bit off. The template you used seems female, and using a female reference can throw off some proportions when making a male sketch. Just something to keep in mind when using references

Im diggin it! I especially like the second one. I think I'm just a slut for belts? I really like your eye for detail. I need to work more on that as well : O. I like the hat on the first and second one more than the third one. Third one has a more witch doctor-y feel to it for me. But this is all my opinion. Hope you have a nice day! Thank you! I might actually do some rapid fire figure drawings today. And yeah...i have a hard time with proportions sometimes.....especially since i make everyone's legs too stubby lmao. I guess i only draw short dudes XD
And my template is only there because its the method i use for figure drawing. Instead of making a whole bunch of perspective boxes for the ribs, and pelvis, i just use ovals. Thats all that the template is reminding me of. Im not using it for proportions or anatomy because it is a woman lol

Hello, try to watch some Glen Vilppu video tutorials, esp about sketching and figure drawing. I read at your title that you want to be a character artist, that is why, although your pose sketching is pretty well, as for me, there isn't some king of flow, movement and lightness.
Keep going, you have a good start!
PS Your designs are also very good drawn)
