the way you drew it almost makes it seem like the stump is walking, you cant really see any dirt beneath it. it may be aesthetic but it looks cool. not really a critique but figured I'd respond to the call.

well since the like machine broke it's a lot quieter around here as a whole, but like everyone else above said there really isn't anything I can critique since it looks so good and my skill level not being close enough to point anything out really so all I can say is lighting and rendering look amazing!

Just because you asked for it, i will be really picky ehehehe. It's kinda of what HANDRO said.

Maybe it was by choice, but for me it's not entirely obvious if the stump is rooted there or if he is just on top of the rocks... i mean, from the context of the piece i believe that it is rooted because of the mushroons and what a stump is, but maybe it was a eathquake that removed it from the ground, i don't know hahaha. Maybe it would be cool to see some parts actually entering the ground, or something else that you may think.

Thank you so much guys! First of all for the kind words, but especially the feedback. This means a lot to me - I do appreciate the nitpicks, comments, suggestions, and especially new ideas. Always feel free to let me know what you think, as I value your opinion and we're all here to learn

I agree with what was said - I could sink the roots further down by adding a bit more grass overlap, and showing the ground leading up to the core of the tree trunk. It's a bit too smooth in there, excellent catch!

Now, in other news, I made a spooky!

love the lighting on this! everything looks great, but the only thing I would like to point out is the sword in the middle, basically, the sword in the middle looks too big for anyone normal size to hold but the sword on the left of it looks fine. I am basing it on the size of all the objects around it so I may be wrong but to me, it feels too big and heavy for someone to hold unless they weren't a human.

As per usual, absolutely nuts work. I'm very excited to be producing this level of art in the next few years (I'm hoping that stealing tips from people like you will get me there).

The ribbon on the smaller sword seems to react differently to the rest of the wind in the scene. I'm wondering whether the larger sword would cast shadows onto the ceiling above, not sure though.

I actually had a smaller sword to begin with and I scaled it to make it a "focal point" - you're right though, it's too big now! Too late to change though

I did not cast hard shadows in this piece because there are so many light sources that it would be a constellation of scattered shapes. The little ribbon on the sword should indeed be on the other side. Well spotted!

great work @Vonschlippe. if this is your versions of quick I'm kind of curious what you would add to this to call it complete. seems like a very good set of heads that can be used as concept pieces.

Yeah by quick I mean these could have been done in an afternoon, but I split them over 3 week nights. Still, we're talking a few hours instead of 15 minutes!

To push these designs further, I would have refined the material rendering, color and paint, accuracy of the details and cleanliness of the edges. This would have easily doubled the time spent on them, and I felt instead I was ready to move on. This is a basic gradient map over greyscale rough rendering!

okay gotcha. yeah I can see the line work and a few sketch lines when I zoom in. these look good as conceptual pieces to look at before deciding on a finalized design.

Everything in this thread is awesome! I like the mech cockpit design the most. The revised lighting you did after you received a critique brought the concept to a new level. Looking forward to seeing more posts
