A rather boring study on drapery, done for Term 3 - clothed figure drawing.

It's not part of the assignments but it can't hurt!

More studying of cloth and drapery, this time over a woman's figure.

While I was using a (blurry) photo reference, the intent of this is spending as much time understanding the structure of the folds as possible, dividing them into categories (tubes, spirals, zig zags, and inert folds). I find inert folds (where the canvas is not suspended but rather just clumped down, and the only vertical parts are due to the natural stiffness of the fabric) are the hardest to pull off.

I think from here on I'll move on to applying this stuff to more modern clothing. It's the same principle, but there's more variety to the glossiness and stiffness of the fabrics.

Here's a baseline character for Term 4's color palette study, which I have not really started yet.

I think she's the most generic thing I've ever produced, combining every cliché of the Cyberpunk genre into one single picture. It's pretty much my Pinterest home page mashed together, with butts, prosthetic augments, girls with short hair holding weapons, mechanical gibberish, and disregard for classic proportions.

I'll be revisiting this character once I get through Marc's chapter on color harmony and character palettes. She might benefit from basic rendering too.

Any strong opinions about a specific color palette? I really went through a lot of iterations and there were very few that I felt good about, except maybe A. These might benefit from a tertiary color as well, but there's the skin tone and light color to take into account.

If I see the whole page my eyes go directly to the C option, i really like it.
But if I have to say I don't understand where the focus is, in all the options the first thing that I see are the legs, than the butt and finally I go to the face.
But I really like it! Hope that my non-expert opinion could help anyway

I love all of them, but b seems overall balanced and doesn't really get in the way of the design, it just flows better than the other ones

Thanks for the votes people! Combined with the input from the Discord chat, I've decided to go with B, along with the suit and hair color from A.

The difference is that the color pattern will be influenced with ambient light, which I will make very cyberpunk-esque. Here's a work in progress of the rendered face and light scheme!

ALSO - I'm still garbage at rendering if I don't have a few solid references immediately in front of me. At first I tried to render from imagination... the hubris! It was an abomination. I restarted today, humbled and ashamed, with a few ref pics. I'm much happier with the results now!h

Still making progress. There's a ton of stuff to render out so I'm slowly going through it section by section. I'm having fun, so that's the essential part. Eventually there should be no trace left of the original line-art.

Took me a few days to push the rendering on this one to a point where I am happy.

Just submitted it to Marc's livestream - I am very happy with the feedback I got, which is mainly to redesign the legs to match the shape language of the top backpack. I agree, and I think I could revisit her later on with the intent to give her some tanky legs.

Here she is, complete and final for now.

im a bit biased due to Ghost in the Shell being my favorite manga and anime series of all time. and this design just jumps out of that universe. i agree and disagree with the bulked up legs. If maybe we saw this character in another action pose with those legs in full effect it might change some minds. any ways. A+. Keep the cyber punk athestic down to a minimum so i dont have to compliment you so much. lol

Little WIP progress shot of a new design I'm working on.

At this point I have strayed quite a lot from the program, but I'm still at term 4 - however to do these I'm calling upon everything I've practiced in the past few months! Perspective and anatomy are definitely being applied - I'm even using Marc's 5 point perspective grid overlaid on the whole thing!
