Hey guys, another creature design for you, this time I'm feeling more brave and I'll be also showing some of the initial sketches for it

This is my creature if you can comment what do you think of it I would really appreciate it, I really need some critiques.

This is the first sketch I did on my sketchbook. I took inspiration from many animals.

This is a more refined sketch, at this time I was more focused on the anatomy of the animal. You can also see I had a different idea for the horns.

This is the video process if you are curious how I go from traditional sketches to the painting.

I like that creatiure! I think it's really neat. My only critique would be that I feel like something about the back legs look a bit strange. Maybe it's the back leg closer to us that is bent a bit to much forward, but I'm not sure. Something like this?

Other than that I think it's really neat

Thanks for taking the time to comment and the compliments. I agree with you that the with your fix it does look a little better. Horses are hard, I still have a lot to learn.

Hey guys, here is the finished painting of the drawing I last posted, he's a big creature, his size is approximate of the size of a rhinoceros. I'm gonna run you through the entire process. This was the initial concept I did on my sketchbook, I did it out of my imagination, I wasn't thinking of a particular animal or anything, I really liked the result and I wanted to make a finished concept out of it.

After that I started doing a more refined sketch of what I wanted the creature to be like.

I decided I wanted to do a more 3/4 view of the animal instead of the side view I usually do.

Here's the anatomy.

I transfered the anatomy to another paper with a light table, and I started working on the surface of the animal.

I was really happy with the result and it was time to start painting it.

Hey williamdmichell
I like your design choices and the fact that while your creatures are alien, they are actually not threatening. It is a nice change of pace when it comes to original fauna. Also: fluffy!
My humble suggestions are:
1) Use photos of real animals for reference. You will get a ton of information regarding how to render fur, scales etc under various lighting conditions and this will greatly boost your render skill.
2) Don't be afraid to use more contrast. Lighter lights, darker darks!
3) Putting behind the creature a simple background can go a long way to provide credibility, insight to the creature's habitat and overall a quality-of-life upgrade.
4) You need a really firm grasp of animal anatomy to succeed in making a creature "real". Focus on that. Make studies of various animals and soon you will be mixing them creating amazing yet impossible creatures

Hey guys, here's another creature. I wanted to do a really big creature this time, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Here's some color variations, I really tried to use unusual colors for an animal like this. We have birds, insects and fish that are really colorful but we don't really have quadrupeds with these colors, and since he's an alien I tried to push these types of color.

Here's some variations I had come up on the initial sketching phase that I also took some steps further to see if I'd like it better.

Now my I'll show you my process to how this creature came to be.

I was trying to sketch some creatures out of my imagination on photoshop, that was my first time doing digitally, usually I do this traditionally. I liked some of the sketches I did, but I really liked this one. The top left one was the first one, and then I did some variations, the original sketch you can see he has only 4 legs.

Here's what I decided to go with, I tried some different heads, because I wasn't totally pleased with the one I had.

Here's a little video of me painting it, it's really sped up and I cut to the more important parts and it's only value.

Here's some creatures I've done as practice for my imagination skills, I try to make this a daily habit so I can practice coming up with different stuff, it's not always great, but it's a lot of fun when they do turn out great.
