I love this! I'm not super great so I can't give much of a critique but I know that to me it looks really cool. Maybe try to define the shapes in the background a bit more to make them seem more 3-d
I'm not a painter yet, so I also think I can't give very reliable critiques, but in this case I would say darken the edges to stand out the focal point would be a good idea too.
I don't remember there being a cat in the show other than the grey talking one.
Note I just started watching Re:Zero.Well I like the composition, the way my eyes follow down her body.I feel that the bright colors from the character separates it from the background nicely.
@taydemcdonald thanks! Not sure how to make books look 3d though Maybe focus on making the shelf more 3d? @ayreonaut_one you mean darken the background behind the focal point (around the forehead)? Come to think of it, maybe I should have used a gradient layer over the background.@thunderdumpling must be puck's friend Couldn't blend the grey cat into the background so I changed it.@zantiquex thanks! Was doodling a relaxing portrait, but then it keeps feeling off balanced... OMG the pressure! Now it's past bedtime
not necessarily the background, for example, those books in the bottom right corner are in the foreground, but they can be darkened too.
The main things I like about the pieces I've seen on this blog, is the Composition. I feel like I know where I am suppose to focus, I have been struggling with that.

You just need to crop out the empty space! Don't worry to crop out part of the character.
