Hello! Welcome to my sketchbook Here I’ll post mainly studies and sometimes finished paintings.
I work mainly in digital art, but I do use copics a decent amount and just got colored pencils for Christmas, so I hope to be using and improving in those soon. I also want to get started with watercolors (and maybe oils in the future when I master those, but I feel like its such a big investment). I’m 14 and self-taught, and I started doing art in around mid-February 2016.
Before I started, I had never really taken much of an interest in art. A lot of artists I hear talk about how they've been drawing since they could pick up a pencil, but I lost interest as soon as I figured it was worthless to draw when my parents would just lose it or put it away, never to be seen again. I never doodled in my notes or anything and until a year ago, I didn’t even know you could professionally use mediums other than just generic “paint” or that art supplies would cost more than $10 (a thought that stemmed from literally no consideration on the subject). It wasn’t until I saw a girl in my class doing really amazing drawings that it occurred to me art is an obtainable talent, not something that takes years upon years of studying to make something look semi-decent. I’m a really devout writer and was afraid that if I started doing art, I’d consider myself an artist rather than a writer (which is… totally what happened lol but I don’t mind. I’ve learned you can specialize in two things at once.) But I pushed that fear aside and picked up a pencil, and learned that I love it. So here I am, perpetually binging on art-related youtube videos.
If you have any critiques, please feel totally free to share! That’s mostly why I came here, to be in a community of other artists and improve my own art. I’m a beginner and there are obviously so many areas I’m weak or maybe even completely oblivious to.
But anywho, thanks for enduring my wall of text
I would link my instagram for an archive of my previous works, but I'm not sure if that would be considered spam? Its just art on there, nothing personal, but I'll link just a few here just to be safe. So here are some previous works I’ve done a few months ago:
^ Done with copics, rip quality. I still like it but I can see a lot of blunders with the anatomy and some of the shading now.
Another copic piece I've done, though the facial shape and the nose is a bit off.
So all of those were when I was going through my dragon phase.
I tried realism for the first time there, it was Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey.
I've done many more pieces but these are some of my favorites, even though looking back I see a few flaws and some things I could have done better. Now I want to try and have less harsh outlines and a more painterly style in their overall appeal. (Among other things, like improving in values/color theory/composition and such, so I'll probably be doing studies on those. And since reading James Gurney's Color and Light, I really want to try my hand at doing a few quick pieces using a Gamut Mask)
Aand this is more recent, as those were probably around 4 or 5 (?) months ago and this was about a week ago.
