So for my first post I thought I'd kinda describe more of what I'm trying to do for this challenge.
I will be more focused on the Sci Fi side. How things have happened in the area, is that a government funded weapons research company needed an alternate location to test some classified, and slightly illegal weapons. They discovered a planet that was full of mostly primitive beings, in various tribes. Most were slaughtered in a few heavy bomb drops and the rest were taken out as troops made their way through villages.
As housing development went underway by the soldiers, they came across giant statues of creatures. Most statues were destroyed so construction could continue. A few years had passed, and most of the new developments had been constructed, and were livable. The buildings left were some warehouses, and the citadel, the largest, highly secured structure in the center of the town. As the citadel was close to completion, an event took place that no one had foreseen.
One early morning the alarm bells rang, soldiers ran to their posts and were in shock at what they were witnessing. Massive creatures were roaming the land and flying around the government base. The creatures kept circling the base, keeping a distance, until the sun hit the highest peak of day, then they began attacking the area.
In the end, many soldiers were killed, but being a secret weapons development facility there were many weapons that began testing on these creatures. One of the flying creatures was shot from the sky and fell upon the citadel. The beast was pierced right through, where it died, and remains today. Some areas of the citadel needed fixing and rebuilding, and as construction moved forward, most remains of the creature were removed, but the bones were built into the building to show strength. The limbs were cut down to be used as structures in other areas of the base.
By nightfall, the remaining creatures were either shot down or they had retreated. Few soldiers were left, but they knew that more would be sent to their location to help rebuild and continue development. There was a few questions that were in the back of everyone's minds. What were these creatures? Where did they come from? Why did they come? The tribes that were slaughtered had lived in this area for thousands of years... How did they survive these creatures?
Some believe that these were the creatures represented by the statues they destroyed when developing their base. Perhaps the tribes of people found these creatures sacred, and had ceremonies to keep them away? Which would be a reason they returned... As there were no tribes doing any rituals.
One thing was for sure. There was only one thing that was cared about. Building up some new weapons, bigger, deadlier... and wait to use the big toys on the big test subjects.
Ok, so as for inspiration and reference. I have been thinking about this area to be almost a desert like planet. Buildings made by the tribe before the soldiers came, are simple and made of stone. Most of the structure frames for housing were left as is, but technology added. ie - lighting, sliding doors.
The first bit of concept art I sketched up was of the citadel. A simple look of the building with the creature's bones built into the structure. I'll probably do a few closer up shots to help breakdown.
