So I've been meaning to make an art blog thread for a while, but I've been dealing with a bit of an art block. Lucky for me, a video by Marc boyo on the topic of art block kinda motivated me to get back to work.

I mentioned before that when it comes to digital painting, I'm basically amateur supreme. Of course, I'm working on my fundamentals, so I guess with enough dedication and time, I'll get somewhere.

Something I worked on. I feel like my biggest problem is every time I try to work on digital painting, it never gets past this kind of look (I'm referring to the character). Every time I try to draw something, it feels almost unfinished or out of place. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I had wanted to do more, but since I'm just getting out of an art block, I'll show you my favorite pixel works to momentarily compensate:

So I stumbled upon the Paintable Digital Academy, and liking what the founder David Belliveau (dunno if I spelled that right), I decided to enroll.

The first exercise on there was trying to recreate a line art image of an eye he created. And looking at it, I think I did a pretty good job. I decided to take it further and play around with coloring, after seeing this one abstract eye drawing. Debating whether to keep the line art black or color it in, though I'm kind of gravitating towards black line art.

And here it is. Decided to go for a dark colored outline. I think it came out pretty well. Could've done the eyebrow coloring/lighting better, but oh well.

Here's another W.I.P, since I'm sooo great at posting those. (I promise to redo those clouds, they suck so hard right now T_T)

It took me quite a while, between real life and procrastination to actually complete this.

I'm still weak in certain areas, like rendering, lighting, and textures, but overall, it was good practice. I even managed to work with perspective for once, something I've never done. I feel like my fear of perspective has been overcome. It could still be better in this particular picture, but man, I can't wait to do more perspective-related crap.

Any tips/advice you have would be appreciated. : D

Hey your pixel work looks awesome, you really seem to have a nice workflow on them. Regarding your paintings: play around with different brushes and pen pressure more, because you seem to be great when working from reference, I guess what might be lacking is skill when drawing from imagination. I would say that you should definetely do more master studies and maybe try working from several references when you start a piece from imagination. If you really want to render something to the extreme: zoom in bit by bit and layer those colors to blend them together.

Thanks. Using multiple references is something I'm guilty of not doing so I'll be doing a lot more of that heh.
