Yo, I'm a junior in high school and someday later I want to be in the illustration industry at a professional level : ^). I used to have a sketchbook on the concept art forums where I posted a lot, but it got shut down during a few months ago. I started drawing more seriously about a year and a half ago. Trying to learn as much as I can right now before I apply for college, so anything is wanted : ).

Sorry for the wall of text and pictures : ^). I think it's important to see my progress.

January 2019 - someone from the conceptart forums led me into the right direction < 3, they had me start to focus on the forms of shapes and such and got me started into perspective with a perspective book

April 2019 - Did another self portrait from the mirror and it took less time and was a lot better : ). Also did a quick Mulan fanart thing for a school club. Definitely think this was a turning point for my art progress

April-June 2019 - started to bring my sketchbook wherever I went and sketch the people around me mainly at school, it really brought my observation skills and speed skills up because I made myself draw people accurately while their moving. Also, started applying some stuff I learned from the perspective book.

June 2019 - birthday present photostudy for a friend's bday gift

July 2019 - tried to apply more of the perspective book's content in general and a fanart of Tanjiro from Demon Slayer

August 2019 - started getting into digital art seriously with Krita :^ ) kept on using the airbrush tool which was not good. Also started to get into environments and such

September 2019 - Started to get into acrylic painting and more painting in general

My dnd character @-@, it had a lot of planning on paper with it, but I ended up disappointing and kinda gave up

October 2019 - The art teacher assigned all of inktober for october, which made me very upset : ^), but here are some of the ones I liked best. The self goal for this was to draw all from imagination, with only some inspiration pictures only.

Gonna post more recent things tomorrow and start posting what I do everything on here, so enjoy heh heh.

A photo study that's more recent

Another photostudy that was recent, trying to get better at doing edges and stuff

I had to start an art class assignment due right after Thanksgiving break , so I decided to put some effort in it this time. I made a back story on my head but in short it's a teenage boy leaving his clock tower home and it was inspired by this song : ).

Finished what I was working on today, but now to write my artist statement for the art assignment : ^). Might put it up for critique on the forums sometime later.

For my goal for this month, I want to get better at painting in general since I'm still very new to it. Mainly maintaining edges and developing a good sense of colors, so when I do photo studies I'll try not to just make the colors similar to the photo.

Did a photo study today, might go back into it tomorrow since it's very unfinished. I want to get a combination of hard and soft edges, but when I blend it doesn't look good : ^) and then it ends up in mostly hard edges only. Took a lot longer than it needed to be also because I chose very bad base colors lol.

Was really tired today, worked on the study just for a bit, but gonna call that done now and took notes on painting and rendering. Good to have days like this cause it allows me to rethink my focus and learn a bit more.

Also gonna redraw the clocktower boy in a different angle. I showed it to my art teacher and she wants it to be submitted to the Schoolastic art contest stuff and I wanna try to test my 3 point perspective and convey the story ideas better < 3.

No one's probably gonna bother reading the notes lol, but it's just here for documentation I guess.

@cedricgo Ty gonna work even harder on the next one : ), but to be honest I'm probably not gonna make it that far up with it cause the traditional illustration category is so competitive and the top judges for the schoolsatic like seeing ultra refined photo realism :<

Worked on coming up with new ideas/angles for the redraw and it made m very frustrated for over an hour because I have little experience doing 3 point persp, drawing whole rooms or buildings from life, and zero experience designing rooms or buildings. But when I was pacing and thinking, I came up with doing it in 1 point directly behind the character. It would have everything I pretty much wanted in the final. I would liked to do it in 3 point, but I really think it's out of my league right now. I think redrawing this again, probably in a few years, when I learn how to design buildings better would be nice.

Gonna try to do the final thumb tomorrow and focus on rendering feet.

My line confidence is really bad on digital lol and I found out I'm not that good at sketching feet from reference. Spent most of my energy on the planning stuff for the redraw so I got distracted a lot when doing this.

I had a lot of homework due tomorrow, but I had some time working on the redraw and gathering a lot of references/inspiration for the things in the drawing. I want to make this the most detailed piece I've ever made and give it my all the next few days. I hope I stay on my plan and at least finish the sketch tomorrow because the contest submissions for my teacher is due on Tuesday. It already has a lot of complicated elements in the thumbnail. It also doesn't help that I have to take the SAT early on Saturday so I guess I'll take it kinda sleep deprived : ^).

Spent a few hours today finishing up the sketch. I feel like I didn't do as much as I wanted, but that's fine cause at least my goal for today was reached and mother is making me sleep early for once for the SaT : (. Might also need to redo the tree roots on the bottom right and also didn't know what to do for the town so covered it in a lot of forest. I have 3 days to finish rendering this thing, but I'm getting a little nervous cause most of the things in here I have almost no experience rendering : ^).

Finished the top half of the drawing @_@. I took a nap after I came home from the test for a few hours. Gonna go back into the smaller trees definitely and builidngs and try to make it more defined/rendered. I think it's turning out ok so far, but I think I stole too much from my inspiration but I also based it off on a bonsai tree too so I guess it's fine : ^).

I haven't done any of my homework due tomorrow : ^), so I had to stop a bit early today and it was a good stopping point anyways. This is the most detailed thing I've ever drawn and probably the best thing also. I'm pretty proud of it ngl, with all the planning, effort, and ideas that went into it. I have one more day to finish this for the Schoolastics competition, but luckily tomorrow is a half day from school so I'll get extra time < 3.

It's done and I'm pretty proud of it ngl : ). I'll show the final final neat photo next time I post, but tomorrow I'm gonna take a break since I know worked hard on this. Also, I put a desaturation filter on it. Hopefully I'll win just something from the Schoolastics thing, anything and I would be really happy. I won't find out till like March or something next year. Might also post this back into crit too.

@echoriel thanks so much : ), honestly I don't think I could've done it without you and cedrico < 3

Here's the final final picture I submitted, there are some really small things I can fix, like the length of the XI to the right (make even with the other) and make the character's lineart less fuzzy, before the submission closings. Though I think I have a good chance of winning in regionals and maybe something nationally. They announce results by the end of January, I'll let you guys know the results.

Also submitting the drawing I did before this. If that gets higher than the redraw I will be upset.

Other stuff I made in art class that I submitted also. Might not be as relevant but oh well.

My art teacher asked me to bring in the pencil illustration to school : ). She wants it to be in an art show with her work also. She was only allowed to pick one student and I felt really honored < 3. And the name of it is 'One Last Look'.

Going to try to get back to digital art stuff. For some reason I felt really tired before my drawing time and started late cause I was sleeping : ^). I tried to gender bend a friend from memory. I drew them a few times so I probably know their face a bit. I think a big problem with my digital painting is that I over work in areas that doesn't need to be? idk, but it's not completely terrible cause I think I'm getting how to do edges a bit better. Gonna try to finish the face tomorrow.

Spent about 2ish hours on this today, kinda sad that I'm so slow when painting. Quit the other thing from yesterday cause it's bad but todays is slightly better I think. Don't really know how I feel about it right now, but I'll try to finish this by Saturday for real. I think her face is a bit uncanny or something's off, might just be me and hopefully I'll just get better the more I try to paint digitally : ^).

Wonderful studies. You're starting at the right time.

I'd say spend some time thinking about how to mass values and make marks for your traditional pieces. It'll really help your pattern organization and rendering.

Andrew Loomis has an illustration book is rather good for that, among many other principles of the craft.

@ARTMAXION thanks for the advice < 3, do you know what Loomis book has that info and can I ask what you mean by mass values?

Didn't turn out terrible, but it's a mess : p. Gonna call it done, but will clean it up more tomorrow for a bit.
