TEAM FANTASY

Hello all!

I've decided I will participate in the Art War as I've grown a bit in terms of artistic skill since my last post on the old Cubebrush website. Plus, participating is always fun and a great way to improve even more!

I'll be joining the rather popular team fantasy by introducing Beaux, the Benevolent. My idea is that he will be a dragonborn inspired character who is famed for his selflessness in battle by protecting his allies from harm with his shield-projecting bracer/gauntlet. I will update his backstory the more I explore this character.

Just starting off with a few thumbnails of head designs so I can at least visualise how this guy is going to look.

Any and all comments and critiques welcome (in fact I'm counting on it).

Yes, only good things to earn from this kind of contest !

In your thumbnails I really like the first one as the shape makes him the most serious / dangerous challenger in there. A more round shape as your 7 seems interesting but needs some more sketches to really know !!

Time for a new WIP. I've quickly and crudely rendered and added values to three of the designs (1, 7 and 8). I think I will be going ahead with design 1. I usually don't enjoy making bulky characters but I've become invested in his deign and I'd like to explore him more.

More design and anatomy sketches are on the way! (I'm usually a pencil and paper guy so it takes me a little longer to transfer my paper sketches into digital).

Been playing around with some armour designs. Here are a few thumbnails for the bracer that will activate the projected shield I have planned for the character.

I wasn't happy with the previous armour thumbnails so I've made a few more, though I made sure to actually enjoy myself when creating them!

They are all 4 interesting to develop ! But the last one you should put the leg protection on the opposite side of the shoulder path to balance it a bit better, his left side looks really vulnerable like that

@nagavibz Thank man. I was playing around with asymmetry for 4, though it didn't quite work out . I'm probably going to develop 2 more and tweak aspects of the armour so it is more stylised/congruous.

Cool work, of your most recent designs I like armour versions 1 and 2, they stand out as looking the best to me. Keep it up!

Finally finished the back view. There are some anatomical issues that I've been struggling to fix. Currently I just want to add the values and correct during the render of the concept sheet.

You're doing a great job Arulan!! Really like how this is coming along. If I may make a suggestion you'll save yourself a lot of time if you do your best to fix the anatomical issues in the line work rather than whilst rendering the forms out as you could potentially spend quite a bit of time rendering something out that isn't correct then have to correct it and render it all out again. Again really nice direction with your character and you created an interesting front and back pose to look at.

@jonhopkins Thank you very much! Anatomy is something i've been trying to focus on, but clearly I need to look at some more references! :D. Sounds like this advice comes from experience as well so I'll take heed.

So I haven't really done anything these past couple of days. I got rather sick a while back and my head has felt as though someone has tried to stuff cotton all through my brains and sinuses. Now that I have some sort of clear space in my head, I will back to fix the anatomy (as best I can) then quickly do some values, colours and get stuck into the fun part; the final illustration!
