Some compositions, I know I said Character in this update but I just did these today, they make me rethink my guardian's design a little, I feel like exploring more. And I'm excited to show you guys these. So In the meantime, let's look at these compositions I just came up with. Basically I want to show him defending the fantasy realm ( Like a planet ) from weapons of sci-fi realm. I can't take my eyes off C,G,J & O...(sorry for the tiny label ) I love G coz of its simplicity and the guardian's massive scale but it lacks action, C & J are more like a competition material... I think, and O is just plain... What you guys think?

I like 'J' the most in the previous exploration of composition, because it shows my idea. His glorious moment, trashing the sci fi forces, saving the fantasy realm from their attacks.

The Guardian is inspired by the Mongol horse archers. They were skillful with their bow. That gives me the basic idea for my character. The guardian is a beast riding archer who shoots magical lance-like arrows. Here are some designs with the influence of Mongolian armor.

I like the look of B,C,F, so I developed them further in photoshop. Need more exploration with the colors.

Color exploration. Finally decided the overall color scheme, and I changed the armor to give him more flexibility when he aims. I think asymmetric design looks more dynamic. I use Red for his skin color to suggest a feeling of unstoppable destruction, and to create a noticeable focus point in my final artwork. I chose blue and violet for the horse, to suggest a feeling of levitation in space.

Rough sketch of the details, pattern on the horse is inspired by X-ray of a seahorse and space. And some floaty hair to leg of the horse to suggest levitation And I changed the color of the bow to white to make it stand out more.

Some rough pre-visualization sketches again. I have great doubt creating work like this with huge amount of details. @@ Now with the direction all set. It's time to get into serious rendering process...

Concept art for The Guardian's weapon, The Bow & The Lance-Arrow, the source of inspiration and idea sketches. It is a magic bow without arrows, the magic thumb ring is required to fire a shots of magic lance-arrow.
It is a weapon with devastating power. And is heavy. Not the weapon of choice for an ordinary archer.
To make the bow looks heavy and stands out from the character, a bow with two big horns end came to my mind. The bow has to look powerful. So I look up some reference started sketching and then rendered the final look of the bow.
