I did some changes to The Guardian’s weapon, the magic bow. Previously, the magical bow only works with the thumb ring, and had a glowing string which worked like the string of a normal bow. The main thing about this update is, I got rid of the string, as I want the guardian to be able to hold the bow horizontally. It’s difficult for a normal bow to fire a good shot when an archer is holding the bow horizontally with the string above his holding arm. With the string gone, the guardian is able to execute shooting poses that is impossible for the normal bows. And that greatly increased his flexibility in battle. When the guardian does a shooting pose, both the thumb ring and the magical bow will glow, then the lance-arrow will rapidly form and will wait to be fired.
In fantasy, a flying horse is generally winged. Are there any other elements that could also suggest flying or levitation? How to make a flying creature without wings looked convincing? Or in this case, moving in space!? I was trying solve this problem when designing this beast. And I decided to give it an alien-ish look. Well because in real life we don’t really know aliens, so maybe that would make the viewer accept the unnatural behavior of the creature more easily. After some design exploration, I came down to this: The abnormal head design and zebra-fish stripes. The abnormal head design is to hint that this isn’t really a horse. Zebra stripes are for visual excitement and movement in the design. The light color transition between the stripes is to suggest fish, because a swimming fish looks a lot like floating and moving freely in space.
