Always thought that using historical figures reinterpreted as fictional characters was a interesting and easy way to express style. Ill do something similar and base my character off of Amelia Earhart, keeping the surname only, because she was a bad@ss and someone i respect greatly.

Here a rough sketch of the composition that im working with, also great time to mention that i like sci-fi. The idea is a naval-air battle i guess. Planning on doing the character design after settling the composition.
Interesting idea, waiting to see how the picture evolves from here 
Hes some shading and some clouds, I wasn't settled on the composition yet but now I like it enough to just take and run with it.
Small update on the composition. Right now just trying to get all my angles lined up and what not. Gonna try and experiment with a slight fish eye effect around her right elbow
it looks great so far. The composition gives of a very dreamy / free vibe, I believe that adding the fish eye effect will make it even stronger.
Keep it up, I'm exited to see the finished piece.
A bit more progress on the composition, getting pretty close to what i was thinking so thats encouraging. Next big step is to find the color scheme to use. Im thinking about giving her a red/orange color with black trim. the BG also needs alot of color work, i just laid down some preliminary colors so far.
(sea color was alot more blue in PS, is this weird compression-color diff a known issue???)
*edit - think its cuz i had my PS file set to CMYK, has been fixed
Some more progress on the BG. Right now still trying to figure out the lighting and what color composition to use.
I was thinking I want a dark to light gradient from left to right, maybe even add some red on the left to show a fading battle in the distance?
I am kinda conflicted on what time of day to set this as but for now im going with (high) noon
