Started detailling the illustration today! Reworked completely the foreground character, and blurred it to focus more on the more important characters
Then I worked on our hero corrected the pose and anatomy then adding all the clothes
And then I gave you a beautiful and cute placeholder for a our furball! Enjoy!

The composition is looking awesome so far! I've been following everything on Instagram but felt I should pop a little message of encouragement here too ^.^ Your character has turned out so cool and watching the progress has been awesome I did also have a chuckle at the cutout red panda, definitely made my day!

I decided to work on our favorite overcute furball little guy, and now he looks so fluffy!!! I want to hug it but I can't! T_T

You could maybe push the idea that the woman below is an intruder/enemy, because right now I'm not sure if our panda-riding heroine is a hero or a forest mugger XD

The lady in the foreground is this one, she's the vilain of the story, so maybe to make her more recognizable i shouldn't blur her ?

The cutout panda was fun, but I thought that maybe I should work on it one day, could be a nice idea xD
Still thinking about how I would show her super power XD (Maybe I'll just put that in the concept sheet )

Maybe with her weapon in sight? I think a blood stained knife give immediately a villain feeling.
Is it necessary an electrical superpower? It could be stealth or static discharge.

Well it would be quite weird if she was holding her knife in the air for no reason x)
But it's okay, this far in the story the reader know who this is so it's not a huge problem

No idea yet, I have to think this throught

Even if it's an electrical power, just the lightnings charging up would tip the viewer off that a supernatural ability is in motion and thus solve your problem.
As for the villain: Lore-wise, yeah, but that would require prerequisite knowledge of the story, which the illustration doesn't give. Showing the knife or giving her a malicious/evil/squinting expression would help, I think. Even a skull ornament on her shoulder would do the trick
If you've ever played Warcraft 3 - imagine Arthas vs Sylvanas (while she was alive) - you'd never think "Oh, is Arthas the good guy" even from just a still picture of them.
Sorry if I sound critical, I don't mean it that way, I just like the illustration and the possible reversal of the roles bugs me

That could work for the superpower, I'm letting some more time for inner brainstorming in case I find something even better, you never know

Never played warcraft 3, but I know the characters! But I can't do the skull thing, because I would have to change 16 other illustrations XD
But mostly because the point of the story is about what you said the possible reversal of the roles, is the good guys really the good guys in the story? is the villain the hero?
I can totally understand that for the contest it might be a bit unclear which is why I'm playing with the color to convey the message,
Our vilain here is the only one with "cold" colors and the hero and her mount has "warm" ones
I hope it will be enough, but in any case I'll have a new piece for my book

I would recommend to check the perspective, for example - I think you would see more belly side and less saddle of the furball and the lady would sit more up straight🤔 Maybe flipping canvas horizontal sometimes would help too?
