Hi! this is my second time joining an ART WAR! For this one I decided to challenge myself a bit and go into uncharted territories for me thematically and artistically. So for this one I present to you Doktor Gregor Mesmer !

DESCRIPTION :
A stern psychotherapist whose office's door appears in people's dreams. He has the ability to "exorcise" people's inner demons which has the effect of giving them flesh in the real world.

For this one I'm taking a big leap out of my cartoony styles and into the world of realism. I'm not gonna lie, it's kinda scary and I don't really expect good things but hey, I'm gonna have to go through there sooner or later and that doesn't mean I'm not aiming for the top!

Right now here's a crude drawing of what my villain will look like.

My inspirations comes from shows such as The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks and Dr. Who. But as it stands right now, I feel like it's a lacking a bit of fantasy but balancing it is going to be a pain I already know that much. There are a lot of things I'm gonna have to figure out on the fly so I'm gonna get to work without any more delays.

19 days later

Hi again.

I didn't die. Even thought I haven't given signs of life for about 3 weeks, I fell into a pile of technical roadblocks and had to take a break to re-assess what I need to do and learn how to do it. The thing is for this project I'm aiming for a marmoset viewer-ready model but in order to do that I gotta learn how to make good real time characters models and that includes all the jolly technical stuff I blissfully used to avoid like retopology, unwrapping UVs, baking textures, making PBR ready materials and all that stuff. Also Blender kinda suck at these things so I had to get myself and learn new softwares in the mean time. Thankfully There were some good deals during this holiday season.

So for the last few weeks, I dipped my toes into Substance Painter for the textures. Had to learn most of it from scratch. But I've almost finished texturing the head.

Also as I was working on this I slowly realized the importance of having good UVs the hard way. I'm afraid all these dirty seams around the face will be here to stay...Oh well, it's not too distracting at the very least, and consider this lesson learned.

I'm gonna have to move myself hard if I want to finish this on time. This is getting kinda tense.

I finished texturing the face and started making the hair. I've also made some eyes but I don't like the way they look right now, they lack depth or something I'm gonna have to keep tweaking them some more.

Once I'm done with the hair I'll consider the head done and move on with the clothes. I already have a rough body mesh as a base hopefully it won't take too long.
