Alright, I'm back! After scrapping what I've had, I've decided to go for a water themed champion. I started out by doodling some poses and ideas to get a better feel of what I want to do:

I initially had a swamp motif in mind, but eventually scrapped it in favor of an ocean theme:

I started iterating some designs with those chibis, and eventually narrowed them down to these four! After tweaking, and a little of mix and matching I finally got to the (somewhat) final design!

I said "somewhat" because I feel like the colors could use some tweaking, so I might work on some different palettes. When designing her, I sort of had a "2D sidescrolling adventure game" function in mind, hence the action poses! I thought of an interesting concept where you could either use her seashell lance to attack from afar, but deal less damage and use the crab claw as a shield, or a short ranged, powerful attack with the claw, but no shield!

Now, onto thumbnailing! I'll post an update soon ;D

Update time!

Here are some comp ideas; for some reason, I've had way more interesting ideas for vertical compositions than horizontal, so I decided to just roll with it. Which one(s) are your favorites?

Also! I just realized that I didn't at all add my info on this thread, so I'll just o that right now:

I started out with a slightly more defined comp based on the thumbnail; I realize this composition undermines the character a little, but I just really wanted to explore this one.

Then, I took the good old one point perspective out of the closet! This temple was the hardest part of the whole image by far, but it was definitely a great reminder of how perspective can make or break an image. I think I did it well enough.

And here is the finished lineart! I went for a ligne claire, Moebius-esque look. I have yet to decide whether I'll color the lines or not.

That's it for now!

It's finished!

To be completely honest, deciding the color scheme for this piece was way harder than I had imagined! While I'm not quite sure if this is 100% what I would have liked to have settled with, I'm very satisfied with the final image.

All in all, I had fun in this contest. Hope everyone else is having fun, too!

Good job with this one !
I really like that Moebius feeling we can get from it.

Thanks! I’ve always loved this art style, but I rarely get to draw it.That’s why I decided to go for it!

Hi all!

So I've decided to work a bit more on the "2D adventure game" idea I had in mind when designing this character, so I made a mock up of how it would look like! I followed NES palette and resolution restrictions (although it might not be perfect, there probably is something here that is not possible on the actual hardware.) Any thoughts?
