Here are my first rough concepts, I like 3 and 4 a lot but will probably go with 4; or atleast something like it.

Got some more iterations down, I'll probably be taking my favorite things from a few of them.

I wanted to do a better fleshed out concept before I start my illustration. I might need to redo the spikes, they look a bit odd right now. Any feedback is welcomed. I also need a name for this guy except for just Fire King.

pretty neat idea.

I did some loose thumbnails, I think I am going with something like 1.

This is so cool. The design is awesome! In your final picture so far he looks big but you could definitely push some perspective and make him look massive

Thanks! I think I'll be going with a different composition. I'm having trouble showing how he turns people into fire zombies with his spikes with this illustration.

Okay I decided to go with something different as I wasn't totally digging the other one. I really like this one; I have to change and figure a few more things out then I can start rendering but I wanted to post an update. Thanks for looking! Feedback is always welcomed!

The dutch angle does honestly help a lot, you do have a good sense of scale here and there's plenty of dynamic gesture too. That's probably your best bet!

Alright! I changed a whole bunch and I still have to fix a few things and render it but I think for the most part it's all there. Any feedback is welcome! Thank you for looking =D

This looks really promising so far, always liked the idea of having the swords in his back like that

It's pretty much done, I just have to put some finishing touches on it and clean it up. I'd love to hear some feedback. Thanks!

This is my final submission, I had a ton of fun working on this. I wanted to mention why I made a few of the decisions I did on this piece. I really wanted to go with something epic and try to hit that "wow factor" or at least something that was epic. I know my skill isn't near as good as lot of the awesome artist in this contest so I'm hoping to make up for that a bit by having a cool composition and more of a storytelling illustration than splash art. I tried to make it really feel like war too (this is an art war after all!) so that's what guided a lot of my choices. I wanted my main character, the Spiked King to feel like a monster that is nightmarish and was really effective at war. I hope this whole scene really depicts the middle of a battle well and I hope y'all like it! Thanks for looking.

A bit of lore behind the Spiked king!
He was once a powerful king of the giants before they turned on him because he was practicing in forbidden magic and necromancy, he was able to turn himself into an immortal lich. The giants were unable to kill him so they drove these giant nails through him into the ground to try to keep him restrained but he was able to break out and now he uses those magical nails to turn humans to undead minions and bring his fury across the land.
