Hello everyone, I'm Raivis. I really like this years theme and will proudly have my own take on Latvian mythology.
A little introduction to the character: Mara (MΔra) in Latvian tales has a large variety of roles. Over the many years she is regarded as Earth Mother, World Mother, Forest mother, Sea mother, People and Animals Mother.
She is usually depicted doing household stuff, tending cattle and so on. She is often shown sitting by a spring or a willow. All these attributes associate with the realm of the dead.
Her holy animals are - beetle, toad, chicken, viper, woodpecker, in which she tends to incarnate. Most commonly she is depicted with the serpent cult, which also adds her to the Htonic deities of fertility.
In art she is commonly shown in National Folk Costume. And I will incorporate that in my artwork. As well as all the things above as much as I can.
