My first Idea was someone riding a war horse. I chose Mongolia as nation because after short thinking I had a plan.
I try to update when I reach certain points.
Now It is time for some ArtWar! ^^

I finally found some time to figure out some Ideas. I know it is really ugly at the moment, but it will get better with the next posts ^^
I think I will go with the 2nd one but do some minor changes or additions.
Currently, I think just about the character. Weapons and the horse stuff will comes later
So the next post will be a cleaned up front view line art version of the character
Here is the final sketch of my character. Next I turn the sketch into a cleaner lineart version before going to value and color. The look of the horse and the weapons I will do separately and show that in the concept sheet next to the character. (the sword is just there because it is tied to the armor)
And here is the cleanup.
I sadly can not take as much time as I want to. Maybe I will do the concept just in flat colors and use values just in the final illustration, but I am not sure yet.
Either way the next thing will be the concept for the horse and other equip. After that comes color
So the concept is set.
I really struggled with the colors because I wanted the blue from the flag in there but together with the red it always felt a bit wrong. But I think to make the metal a bit bluish works well and the blue for the emblems is not too much.
The horse and the bow I left a bit sketchy just to get a direction. There might be some minor ideas to add in the Illustration.
So next I will take on a final Illustration. Therefore, I hopefully will take me way more time than for the concept ideas. I try to make some update posts here and there
I love the clothes and all the little details you put in there. One question, is it on purpose that the arrows are so short? I mean is it a certain sort of mongolian arrow, or was it a design choice? 😄
Well, I first thought on a kind of short bow which can not use the long standard arrows. But now i have a bit the feeling that they are a bit too short too ^^
Btw after some thumbnailing and thrown away sketches i choosed an idea
this is the sketch for the illustration I decided to go for
It is a night scene with 2 warm light sources in the form of fire and the moonlight from the back. There is a simple landscape with mountains in the background and for the foreground I wanted a bit of movement.
All in all I am happy with the idea and will work on this further

This was the initial Idea
In the last days I was really frustrated by working on this peace because I was not able to do what was in my imagination.
I noticed that I need to learn a lot more when it comes to paint night scenes. Especially in the background I felt lost. I also need to learn how to use multiple light sources correctly.
So I need to study more and work on other things where I have more motivation for right now. Maybe I will do some more edits in the final days of this project but for now I think I am finished. ^^
