Cassandra - Art School Journey

Hey everyone! I'm Cassandra

One of my hobbies has always been drawing but I was never too serious about it. Lately I have been drawing more, especially digitally, and I've been enjoying it. But I want to get out of my comfort zone and improve my art. That's why I bought the Art School program a while ago.

I will be posting my progress here. I have already started Term 1 and so far I like it. I can't wait to see what the other Terms offer! But for now I'll stick with Term 1.

Here are some of my recent artworks (including some fanart) so that I can compare my progress to before and after Art School.

Here are my assignments for the Digital Production 1 class. I have been using Photoshop for a while now, but I still learned some new things about the program.

Welcome to Artschool! I really like some of the choices you made for the first assignments. And based on the subject matter of your initial artworks you have very good taste. Can't wait to see what you come up with as you move through the classes

Hi Cassandra! =D Wow, your portrait drawings look really nice! O: Can't wait to see your progress!

As for the Term 1 stuff you've posted, seems like you really have a handle on Photoshop! I think you did the image adjustments and the mountain/forest cabin really well. The dragons flying around the volcano castle doesn't look too bad either, though I feel like... maybe it would be more convincing if you made the mountain into more of a volcano instead of being more mountain (if that makes sense?).

And you can also make better circles if you draw a little faster/with more confidence in your strokes! :] Though I totally get it... drawing good circles is sooooo difficult OTL

In any case, it's really looking good so far; keep it up! =D

In the dragon picture the dragons are supposed to attack the castle (that's why it's burning). I think it wouldn't make sense to build a castle right on a volcano... but I get what you mean, a volcano instead of a normal mountain would have been much more dramatic.

Yep, circles are not easy I appreciate your advice, I'll keep it in mind when I practice drawing circles again.

So... I practiced drawing circles again and this time I was able to achieve more smoother lines (but it took me a few tries).

Here are some cylinders as a warmup before working on the nude figure drawing assignments.

Awesome studies!! I noticed something not super correct in the last girl, her knee is pointing down but in your cilinder seems that it's pointing a bit towards us. Maybe keep more attention on the natural curves of the body, but apart from that they're so good!! I still do this studies sometimes, you will benefit from that

Now that you mention it, I see my mistake with the knee. I somehow totally overlooked that.

I also think that this exercise is really helpful, especially since I have mostly avoided drawing full bodies in the past.

Here is my finished assignment for the male and female proportions.

For the female character check the position of the belly button and the straight leg (it's shape doesn't read as foreshortened at the moment). For the guy just make sure his knees are at the same height.
Great progress overall! A lot better lines and shapes than your previous entry. Keep it up!

I noticed that his chest is slightly tilted to his left and not straight to us, but apart from that it's amazing!! also his espression is very good

Hey there!

So... it's been quite a while since I've last uploaded here something. I got sidetracked with some other stuff and found it more difficult to get back into my art routine.
But it's a new year so... new me? I intend to practice art more regularly and not get distracted too easily. Let's see how it goes

Here are some figure drawings I did a while back and forgot to upload

I also started the Perspective 1 class and did the assignments.

I did this room in 1-point perspective based on the video lesson of the class. I didn't draw a real room, I just did something similar to the lessons example. This is also the first piece I submitted to the weekly live streams. In this version below I fixed the stuff Marc mentioned during the stream.

For the 2-point perspective assignment I did a medieval market square. This piece took me a while as I am quite inexperienced with perspective drawings. Before Art School I had never even thought about doing these kind of drawings. Marcs critique during the streams helped me a lot. I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

I've been practicing gesture drawing for a few weeks now. At first I struggled with this exercise but now it's gotten a lot better. I've included one of my early attempts at gesture drawing and my current progress. I'll definitely continue doing these

Here is the rest of the Photoshop 2 assignments. It was fun playing around with the different features which I didn't even know existed before watching this class. It took some time getting used to the pen tool, it's definitely not my favorite.
