Wow I really love that rendered piece. there are a couple things I want to point out. I can see that you where going for a render piece with 2 different light sources from the example on the bottom. In your rendered piece I think you might have just added blue to the shadows instead of adding 2 different colored light sources which makes her feel a little out of place compared to the background. I have my edited piece here

I can see in your background that you had the right idea so I followed the direction the of blue light and applied it to the side where the light would hit her body. I then made the dark areas facing that side dark blue and the shadows facing the yellow side the dark brown. In the shapes below the reference you can see how that is the case with that lighting too.

Also was hit a bit by the depression bug, but we swatted back at it and I'm feeling much better now.

I see what you mean! Damn that makes so much sense! no wonder I was struggling so much with it! You're right, I only colored shades when I should have added a second light. Thanks so much, really wish I had realized this as I was working on it, but at least now I know. Hopefully I can remember this properly for next time.

Putting term 4 on pause for now as I focus on some other things for October, however it doesn’t mean we’re not trying to keep practicing. So did a few more exercices. If bandwith allows, I'll still try to move forward.

Nice work on the anatomy exercise. It's an interesting idea to use still life as a reference for a light source. The gestures look great as well as the leg studies.

In the end I decided to just go with what I'm more comfortable with, grey tones with heavy shadows. The only adjustment was that I'm increasing blacks much more to give it a more "Noir" feeling.

I like the noir part of the one-shot comic.

Very quick update to share some progress, since october is going to be flooded with all kinds of stuff.

Term 4 is on pause until I get bandwith to do something. And I'm so close to finishing it. I'll probaby try to push to do a bit, but there is simply too many other things to prioritize first.

Managed to do a quick practice sketch before putting this on hold.

Now for October, I'm joining what we are calling OCtober.

That is, we submitted our original characters or works and a prompt was created with all of these. So each day we get to draw an original character from other people in a cosplay or halloween theme. This is the first time I seriously try to join one of these events so I'm very excited!

And things already started!

Day 1 - Nyx from Hazie.
Mischievous little devil fire spirit.

Day 2 - Decco from Endur
Undead Darkstalker - Vampire hunter

It's been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun!

Tomorrow Oct 3 is my day, so people will draw characters from Nozomu. I'm beyond excited to see what people do!!! I'll report back to showcase everything people do. I'll probably print them as well!

As you can see, as suggested, we tried to go for a more dramatic angle as well as adding a bit of wind. I'll probably remove the title from this page, move it to the cover, and replace it with a "wind sound". Or maybe the sound of the water below. Maybe "Shaaa Shaaa" or something. I dunno xD

Any and all feedback is very welcome! I'll really try to do it the best I can to at least perform well in the contest!

i've noticed that when he fell there was a close up on lost the ring in the grass. He 'let go' of it and had a new beginning. I really like it

You could darken the middle beam. It grabs my attention and I keep staring at it.

Ah yes 'Shaaa Shaaa' is very fitting into that moment. I could see it when the old lady comes in. You could draw some leaves with wind lines here, maybe write 'gustle' next to it. Something subtle

I can see building up that serious dark tone when he is alone in the frames and when lady pops up its just gone followed with silly sound effects.

Have you tried erasing some of the textures like a gradient? No textures around him would give him more focus And maybe less types of textures. It can get busy if you have too many and its easier to make it work together.

Yep! You got that right, and the ring isn't even mentioned, it's more like a visual storytelling complement to it. As I did the draft I was trying to see what other points we could pack in.

oh wow the angle and lighting is phenomenal it looks so dramatic haha. Only thing I can point out are the 2 upper beams perspective seem a bit off they kinda look like they are tilting down. maybe you could change the angle so that they are parallel to the main beam I made a quick edit but I dont even know if mine looks right it is a very hard perceptive view to imagine in your head

Bit of a different post today, but just want to share this.

Over the last few days, in the discord group, we had the little OCtober event (draw other's original characters), taking characters other create as a prompt for October, either just drawing them or giving them a halloween theme (free choice).
For Oct 3, it was Nozomu, and people really went all out and did some amazing pieces.

Nozomu is a project that is very dear to my heart, so seeing the flood of fanarts during this day was so exciting and crazy I could hardly believe it. The work and effort people put into these works is just insane.

I’m way over the moon with all of these, it really is something special I’ll remember forever. I hope to print them all and put them over my barren wall!

Also, a few more works I’ve done as part of this event.

The Day 3 October entries are pretty good. It's interesting to see all of their styles.
The shadow one looks like Blade
The one in the blue tunic with the eyes is uncanny. It's as if he's looking directly at me.
I also like Sari and I guess the one in the red dress is a rose, and the catgirl dressed like Blair. I also like the versions of Seki. I don't who the knight is but he looks pretty cool.

This event is very exciting, since it is fun to tackle a challenge like inktober, but in this case the works are not only good practice, they are really special for the creator of the OC.

It's a unique feeling to receive these, but also to know the work you are doing is held dearly by the creator of the OC. I suspect it will be repeated eventually since so far it has been fairly successful.

@mitsuki-youko Hehe, yea, I figured bishi Seki would be well liked. I think I might have to incorporate this "vision" at some point.

Things have been so crazy this month! It's all exciting, but it's really hard to keep up the pace. Starting to feel a bit burned, but we're still holding. It's just the first week of october though xD.

I was right then it is Blade. I would like to know more about the knight. He sounds interesting.
That's an impressive amount of work. The woman dressed as Lilith is pretty good. I like the spot background in the one from Anton. It makes the characters pop. I do like the witch and the characters from Maxmi.
The next page is pretty noir-inspired that's pretty good.

If you're getting burnt out, you should take a break and pace yourself.
