Hello my name is Daniel. As of today I'm 28 yo. and have a health care career but 2 years ago I re-discovered my passion for art. I've been attending an art workshop but all I've been taught is how to copy other peoples works or real life reference and I've the feeling that I'm missing a lot of fundamentals that would help me create the concepts in my head.

That's why I've joined Art School which hopefully will concretize those necessary foundations in order to eventually be able to live from my art in the future. I'm far more experienced with traditional media such us graphite, ink, oil, etc. But I wanted to produce two pieces as a "presentation letter" mostly using the brushes provided by Marc (and some pretty neat brushes from CSP). One is from reference and the other one is an original fan art from one of my favorite franchise (sorry for my clunky english btw).

Welcome aboard! That was a really interesting result, looks almost like a slightly cel shaded 3d model if you don’t look closely, very cool

I wish I could get closer to the reference on the Alien one but that's kind of the limit I reached on the eyes where it didn't look too stretched. Gotta practice my photo editing skills that's for sure.

I did this exercise 5 days in a row, the 1st day is watching the reference, the 5th day is without any reference:

1 minute gestures:

I've seen many artists advice online to do everyday gesture and figure sesions so I'm working on getting the habit of drawing at least 1 hour of 1-5 min figures, I'll try to post monthly my improvements on this field.

Some perspective practice, last one is using the horizon and banishing points from clip studio, really handy tool for weird perspectives:

1 point perspective practice, this is an interpretation of my bedroom, I turned it into an alchemist chamber in a cartoonish style, not using the perspective tool but this time I used the vector layer in order to get cleaner lines and it's freaking awesome:

2 point practice. This time I used Marc's lineart legendary brush, not totally convinced by it but the line "tips" look much cleaner with this one, I'll keep messing around with it but probably at the sketching part of the art:

This is it for term 1, in total took me one month and a half to complete this one, really happy with the progress but I gotta keep up practicing these kind of stuffs.

Lovely work with this 2 point perspective, this is so funny I used the exact same reference when I did mine so I am so familiar with this lol! You did great! I also come from a healthcare background as well so welcome to the forums!

Here goes the first part of term 2:

Not much to say about this one, some shapes, a neat font from the web provided and a few effects:

This was made using only the vector tool, I also added some effects on the shapes and used a cool pattern for the eyes. If any feed-back is accepted I would recommend Mark to do at least 1 monster to show the process to the student as I was kinda lost with this one. Although I don't like the result too much I found this tool might be practical in some cases:

Here is my videogame case. I used and old work that I showcased on the first entry of this post. Hopefully it's cool that I used Marks logo on the side (I'll change it if there is a problem):

And finally part B of the photoshop assignments:

Overall I'm probably not using photoshop in the near future, I'll stick to clip studio as it has proven me to be both powerful and simple to use. I was missing it so much while using photoshop that for me is a no brainer. I'll have to give it to photoshop tho that the brush creation is so straight forward and so easy to do that in that matter photoshop gets the point, but overall I'm glad that I finished this part of term 2 already because it felt kind of heavy tbo. (To clarify I used clip studio to make assigments 4, 5 and 6)

Noice I recently switched from photoshop to CSP so i can draw and animate all in one program. i havent tried making brushes in CSP yet but i heard its super powerful and customizable...

With the exception of fancy photoshop liquify, isn't everything else pretty much the same? i think you could have done most of these in CSP tbh XD but nice work

Interesting, I’m goong to have to give clip studio some love. So far I have been doing most of my work on photoshop and painter when on the pc. What were you missing most in clip studio when you were on the photoshop assignments (apart from the feel and familiarity I guess)

Mostly familiarity, the options that it brings by default like displaying every brush on my face, the navigator, the fact that you can press right click and move the canvas (you have to download an external software to move the canvas with the middle click in photoshop). CSP might look overcrowed with features but everything is just there and not hidden behind some keybinding or some extra settings that I have to look up on the internet, overall for me is WAY more intuitive than photoshop. Sorry for the late response I mostly come here to post my progress

Here I bring some poses after 1 monthe practice, been practicing on alternate days (also december is kind of a slaking month for me).

A few 5 minute figure drawing, gesture->figure sketch:

Here are a couple 45-60 min figure drawings, trying to get as accurate as possible(first gesture->sketch->fine line) :

And lastly the first assigment for the term 2 - anatomy 1:

I tried to use different brushes for the shading in order to get different texture effects or light effects. I'll try to get the rest of this term done before February (hopefully).

Shading and perspective looks absolutely impressive!

Btw, for figure drawing it will be helpful if you show the drawing at the end of each stage. Keep it up!

Damn! It's been almost a month since I created my last progression post, time really flies on holidays... (saying this on January 20th is a bit of a stretch but oh well.... ). Let me show you my progress for the last 15 days:

Here are some 5 minute figures I've done in a span of 10 days, each day I've been doing 6 figures with a time limit of 5 minutes each this are just a selection of this process, overall they sum up to 60 figures. Surprisingling this is the most mentally draining thing I've ever done with arts, drawing fast is stressing!. No more talking here they go(sorry to Gordon003, he asked me to show the process but I kinda did the gesture and main lines in the same layer where I do the final line):

This time for the "accurate figure drawing" I did a fanart, Chainsaw man in a spiderman pose. I also tried a cartoonish coloring as I'm usually inclined to do realism and for this one I didn't though realism would be appropiate, gotta work on perfecting this style tho:

Finally here is the actual practice I've been working for the term 2, some ears studies!. I tried some brushes on this one as I didn't have a prefered approach to shading till I completed this. First I tried on nº1 the gouache brushes from CSP, a bit rough but could end up with a satisfactory result, I don't think I made them justice tho. Next in nº2 i tried the cubebrush from Marc and honesly... I fell in love with it. This one is probably my favorite from the first 3 "methods". Lastly on the 3rd one I used some oil brushes from the CSP asset community, I'm quite happy with the result but it's the one that took me the most to figure out how to use and eventually get to a decent result. The rest from 4th to 6th are just the 2nd method perfected, I tried to add more red in order to make them look less like silicone ears and used a leather like brush from the asset community. Here they are:
