More anatomy studies! This time noses. I'll be posting every assigment when it's ready from now on (instead of bulk updates each month or so). This way I think I'll be able to push myself more. Hopefully I'll have ready lips and eyes before the end of this week so I can start working on the whole portrait.

Not much to say about this one, basically I'm perfecting the shading method, adding some more small details, it's getting easier and faster everytime I do it so I think it's going on the right direction.

Some mouth studies, by far my biggest weakness hopefully I'll be able to practice more before I do the full portrait but this one kind of deflated me. The preset palette I'm using also doesn't seem to match with the actual hues of a realistic lip so I'll have to make some tweaks to make it work.

As much as I don't like to take more than 45 minutes for each study these ones took me more than that (but less than 90 min). Hopefully I won't choke this hard with the eyes.

Some eyes sketches, will post them fully rendered once they are done. Just started the blender course in gamedev and I'm also studying the pyhton crash course which are taking a toll on the time I can dedicate to the art school, thankfully my routine is more or less stabilized now.

The shading on your ear, nose and mouth studies is great! I’ve just been sketching them (I’m also on that video from Term 2 at the moment) but maybe I’ll try to paint them now, like how you’re doing. (Painting noses is WAY easier than rendering them with a pen 😭)

Progress post:

Really happy with the 3rd one. I'll probably get finished the last 2 pairs tomorrow, I'm thinking that probably it would be wise to just focus on getting the values and the volume right instead of trying to get colors right already.

@koalatycoffee I think I'm not getting right the "like how you're doing" pharse, if you are asking about the shading method I can send you the video I learned it from (it's in spanish and i made some tweaks to it). If you are interested I can explain it on my next post, basically the method starts with a black and white rendering as shown in the image i just shared.

Finally I'm done with the studies. Thinking about it this is probably more about render/shading study than it's anatomical studies but either way I learned a lot from them.

first pair is kinda doll looking because I used mainly airbrush and soft brushes, I wanted to experiment given the fact that the reference lighting was not very good. Lastly here are a couple of portrait sketches:

Tried the clip studio paint screen tones on this one to try and get that manga look (I think I over did it a little bit). Could spent more time adding details but I think for now the 3 point perspective concept is clear, so for me as a practice is already finished, might add some more details in the future but for now gotta keep going.

To get a clearer image enlarge it, for some reason when the website loads it for second time it looks pretty bad. Guess I wont use screentones for this course practices.
(based of a great minas tirith reference)

Here comes another assigment. The 4 point perspective is so far the biggest challenge I've come across perspective-wise. First I created the character on the 8 head guide boxes and then translated it to the 4 point perspective guides. Then for the complete drawing I added more lines and boxed in the facehugger in a pose that could make sense with the composition. I'm happy with the end result but I'll probably come back after I complete the light and color videos so I can do some cool light and ambient effects on this one.

I've been really busy this pass few days with work but I'll try my best to finish rendering both portraits and hopefully complete term 3 before March ends.

First cloth study. My parents have a reproduction of this painting in their living room and I thought it could be a good reference to study the folds and diferent stiffnes on cloths. It's the Saint Casilda from Francisco de Zurbarán (the private collection one), for those interested.

For this one I used only the smudge brush provided in Marc's brush pack and I'm quite surprised that a result can come out convincing enough by just using one brush.

Here are the assigments for the Anatomy 2 class. I really like anatomy study so this were some fun practices.

I'll try to get done the second cloth study and the cloth over naked models assigment by sunday.

edit: fixed the 4th model as the lines weren't accurate on her right pectoral. Also squished a bit the right serratus from pov and expanded a bit the pectoral so it didn't look as weird on the 3rd muscle mannequin, for me it still looks kinda weird but I'll probably make fixes (if needed) on the anatomy 3 and 4 assigment.

2nd cloth study:

Kinda rough if you look at it directly but overall the folds and the feel of cloth works.I think I'll have to do some trousers/jeans on the cloth over naked models assigment as I focused too much on gowns studies.

Here are the two cloth over naked models assigment. Not my best works but at this point the assigments are getting harder and harder, to the point that I think I'll have to create some kind of daily routine of things that I still need to improve, this is clearly one of them.
