I'm not sure if this will be covered in more detail in future terms, but I found the part of constructing the mannequin too short and basic. And I just can't shake it off my head that I want to be able to structure the mannequin correctly before laying down the muscles on top of it.

So I stumbled into one of Marc's videos on the subject that I'm watching right now:

An interesting approach to it. Altho I don't know if jumps already into an advanced mode (the cylinder for the torso, I mean) but I'm giving it a shot.

Ok, been reviewing the term for a better grasp of the basic shapes to form the mannequin and also that other youtube video I shared earlier, but to no avail. Don't think it goes deep enough (or maybe I'm just missing a Proko-like example where he uses an image as reference and creates the mannequin from it).

Decided that I wanted to go deeper into that part of the anatomy, so now I'm studying Michael Hampton's figure drawing. Going from the very basics again:

Let's see how far I'll be able to keep up with the book (I miss being able to see things as they happen like in the class).

Also going through a period of adjusting to the new tool (iPad Pro + Procreate) so lines definitely suck, but I'll start to get the hang of it soon.

Marc does kind of skim over this part fast before jumping into muscles, doesn't he?
I had to watch some Proko videos and SInix design to combine their approach and Marc's for anatomy.
You are on the right track! Good studies.

@WeirdOwl: He does, doesn't he? I really was hoping for something a bit more dedicated to this area, since, if we get this right, laying down the muscles afterwards is "easy" (especially for stylized drawings, which is something I prefer).

Anyhow, kinda going back to the basics with this book I'm reading + all the videos on the subject (really considering getting the mannequinization package from Proko. Anyone was able to watch the premium stuff? Do you recommend it?)

I haven't watched any of Proko premium content, but I can tell what really helped me: the Zbrush figure sculpting class. The approach of posing a mannequin and working with Zspheres as well as sculpting all the volumes, did wonders to my brain.
Not sure if that's any help to you, but wanted to share anyway.

@WeirdOwl you are talking about the ZBrush module we have in term 3, right? That's actually very interesting to know! I didn't get there yet, but maybe I'll give it a try sooner rather than later. Thanks for sharing!

Continuing the sloppy studies. This is a character from a manhwa called “Solo leveling”

More character studies. This time using the OC from @ctchrysler (Instagram)

Coming back to some studies I was doing before (how to use what we learn here on art school on stylized drawings) but this time using more of a breakdown and repeating the process right next to it. This is a process I saw on some videos from Ethan Becker. Interesting stuff so far. Will try to move to body pieces soon.

Just finished a piece today that I'm quite happy about.

Link, from Zelda - Breath of the Wild (Portrait study).

Did it all while using the Loomis method we learn in module 2.
Now that I look at the picture again on the computer, I feel like the final piece could've used some bolder lines for the outside contour, might fix that later.

Nice construction build-up The outer lines (especially of the hair on the left side) already feel kinda heavy, they felt more "lively" in the construction. But that's just my unprofessional opinion

Maybe a matter of balancing things out a bit better then? Dunno, something bothers me about lines that are too thin, makes the piece looks flat and boring.

Balancing things out sounds good! Maybe thicker lines in shadow areas and lighter ones in light areas?
