Hello, I'm sorry I should have done this from the beginning. I haven't been able to post any progress I have made in a while, because I was naming all of my posts for each specific term, but like most people I got "stuck" when I reached the personal project on Term 6 :l

So, hoping it's not a problem I wanna go ahead and just post everything I have done in Art School since I joined last year and then update along as I continue to improve through the community here and Marc's feedback :smile:

It's nice to be able to look back and see the progress made. I'll keep each term to its own post/reply.

Term 1:

I'll post the other terms when I find some time in the coming days, bye.

Yeah i did the same thing when i got to mech design.

at this point i don't think you need to add all your work to this post. you could save some time by just adding the links to the other posts. maybe just add some highlights for what you've done.

Welcome back.

wow your 5 and 6 minutes drawing are really on point for the time u had !
nice work !

Aaah that's a good idea, I'll just do that then and keep repost the highlights here. Thanks!

@gteldeschi
Thanks! I actually feel like my skills with figure drawing have gone down since I haven't kept up with practice, it's a really useful skill to cultivate, but I guess it needs to be more constant.

Going with @HANDRO 's suggestion I'll just leave here links to my previous threads for each term.

Term 2
Term 3
Term 4
Term 5
Term 6

From Term 2 the only thing I want to highlight is the portrait/skull work, this is around 8-9 months old. I recently realized that despite having studied a fair bit of portraiture and skill anatomy to this day I still suck at it so much goddamn, it's frustraiting, creating an appealing face/head from imagination is really difficult, I must be doing something wrong or simply need way more practice still.

Some of the

From Term 3 and 4 I got nothing interesting to show, but for the sake of adding to this journey of mine and for my own thoughts, I'll post this following image and remark how I need to go back and study more anatomy, it's a lot of work, but surprisingly fun to understand and learn all the different muscles and bones, which sadly I have mostly forgotten, at least the names.

So I'm able to create a few bodies from imagination, but they're quite stiff and ugly looking, and my biggest limitation is trying to come up with any sort of interesting pose.

I'll post some more stuff later, as the following terms I have proper personal work to show.

I love that room, and the small "drop" taking a bath makes me smile :smile:
One thing though, is it possible that the mattress is slightly off? It looks like the mattress is thinner near the headboard.

regarding anatomy in general. I find myself improving piece by piece. sometimes ill look for a way to improve the eyes, sometimes the mouth. as long as you continue working on it you'll see improvement. it all about finding what works best for you. good stuff.

@Julia_J
Thanks, I think I used that room again for a lighting exercise on a later term, I'll try to post it later. And yeah I see what you mean with the mattress, could be that it's simply a bit more sunken on that part, old mattress x.x

@HANDRO
hugh I mostly agree with you, but lately I question if I have actually made any progress with figure and anatomy.

understandable. not sure I always see my progress either. but when I look at what i drew a year prior I see improvement.

Reaching Term 5 was really exciting since character design is my focus, so I went all out hoping to make something good for my portfolio. Looking back on it I'm still pretty satisfied with it, it's just frustraiting that so much work goes into something that is ultimately so barebones.

I wish I could do these so much more easily and faster, but the process itself is still a struggle, not just the designing, specially the technical side of rendering or really just fast sketching to a decent finish without having to go all out. Oh well, learning slowly is still learning.

Obviously I learned a lot from this and got some feedback from Marc on this one, started out with greyscale and then added color.

You said it all: "Slow learning is still (good) learning".

I know it's a cliche, but I feel it is particularly true with art: the journey is better than the destination. Those moments where you can see you've evolved are always better than the final result in and of itself. Take your time :smile:

The explorations here are super cool, by the way :smiley:

On Term 6 I wanted to work on more character stuff for my portfolio so I made this. The class on Mech design is one of the few things I haven't really done an assignment on, I just really want to focus on the human figure and more organic forms for now.

Anyways Marc helped me with this one and I think it turned out pretty well overall. Hopefully I can make these faster as I improve.

Oh and this term also had a lighting exercise so I went back to this room from term 1 and lit it up.

Ohh his fur "hat" is amazing!! :smile:
