Hello everyone! In this challenge of WORLDS, I am thinking of the idea of Mother ship (a large spacecraft or ship from which smaller craft are launched or maintained) in a fantasy genre.
After natural disasters erupted all over the world, these ambulant, exotic ships were built to preserve the last humans on Earth. The Earth is now an endless ocean so the last humans live in ambulant ships with everything they need. Mother ship is their new home.

Concept Sheet

Final Illustration:
Managed to finish this! I wanted to create a serene environment. Ships moving very slowly like the clouds. Two characters having a stroll and looking at the old world ( Earth ) and the new (Ambulant ships). When I struggling with the composition I left a lot of ideas out of the final piece otherwise it would be too crowded.
There are so many good entries, I wish everyone good luck!

Here is my mood board with references and inspirations to guide me though my final work.
Iterations are bound to happen but that's part of the process.

Oooooo, I'm very interested in seeing some progress! Can't wait!

Very interesting idea! I like your first design sketches, they already look very nice. If you work with just silhouette of the ship (without drawing anything inside, just solid color) and experiment with proportions of the vessel parts I am sure you can make even more out of it. I like the nose part with the head. I think the central part and stern can be more intricate. The stern definitely lacks some mass compared to the nose. Looking forward to see more!

Hey! Thank you for your feedback, I will explore more about the ship silhouette. Your concepts sheets are fantastic btw!

More ideas about the ships. Some have flora and fauna, some are condensed with buildings/condominium with some parks around it and some are temples.

Here is the mothership, before and after. The terrain was bended from the mountain and the ships were molded from it. I am not sure if I am going to show the mothership in final work but here it is to give some sence of scale and backstory even when it feels unrealistic but hey, its fantasy haha.
Now I am going to explore with some colored sketches the day life of living in these ambulant ships.

Very interesting thumbnails, each with its own merit, it's so hard to choose >.<
I think 4, 7 and perhaps 8 are weaker in terms of showcasing the whole 'new on old' theme which in this case is the ruins on the ships.

1, 3, 5 I think have the most potential to show what you want to show, though they are more standard in terms of composition (which is not a bad thing to be honest).

I'd say go for a mix of 1 and 5, but that's just my opinion. If you feel stronger about something else, go for it. Cheers!

You've got a great selection of thumbnails here @carolinaoliveira  I agree with @thakis in terms of some shots not being as strong to showcase the building a new civilisation on top of an old one.

In terms of composition alone, i like 4, 5 and and 8 a lot. I think what you can do is show some of the civilisation in the foreground more, such as what you did with 5 and 7, and have the epic scale of the giant floating structures in the background, as you do with 4, let's say.

I did a quick paintover just to show my thoughts. I'm loving the designs so far, and i'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with

Thank you @jtuffdesigns for the feedback I appreciate it a lot. Your idea is fantastic however I am afraid that the focal point might be on the character that is arriving in the ambulant "pantheon" rather the ships which is my intend to give great focus. I will work on a new thumbnail! By the way the old civilization in my entry is the earth and the new civilization is living literally above of it, so as long as I am showing clouds and ocean I think it's fine.
Thank you once again!

Hmm, for some reason I thought the old world was the buildings on top of the ships, since there is little to no earth in several of your thumbnails. Make sure to show both in a way and focus more on what you feel is best.

i think that looks much better! Really epic sense of scale. Looking forward to seeing it in color!

Process so far! Used 3D and matte painting to guide me better with lighting and foliage. I still need to add characters. Having a lot of fun mixing media. I hope I finish this in time.

Looks really cool so far  Perhaps vary the heights of the objects in the foreground to create more parallax. it's seems a bit too convenient things are showing a perfect glimpse at the midground.
