I agree with @tbrk that the left looks more epic, but I'm also not a fan of how much of the character the VFX cover. They're drawing the eye away from the character a bit too much. You certainly don't lose the character in #2, but the magic is pretty understated. Maybe a happy medium?

I think i found something interesting for the illustration. Since she's a very calm character, seeing her in the combat mode is quite rare and means she take the fight seriously, kinda like a shaolin monk: calm but deadly.
What do you think should i go with this compostition? I really like it this way so I might start render it soon

I had this in my mind so I had to get it out of my head, not going to develop it further for the contest but sure do after when i'll include this in the mythology of my book project

Yes she is, and i wanted to show that at least once, since in the final illustration we won't see any humans, just her evil sister x)

I like the active, dynamic composition you're going for. You might consider moving her sister more to the right so that she's more cropped by the right side of the canvas: Right now it feels very much like a two figure composition, but we really want the focus to be on a single main character, so perhaps moving the opponent off screen a bit will help make your main character a bit more of the focus. Another idea to do that would be to add more lines of energy (like your earlier compositions) with the lines pointing back towards the Angel of Light to draw the eye to her more.
Anyhow, just some random ideas. Good luck whichever way you go!

@mdashow Thanks dude! I agree with you the focus is not enough on her, i'm thinking about enlarging the frame a bit and moving the sister too

I worked a bit on the design, it's slowly coming together so I'm quite happy about that

And started to refine things a bit on this too (going to do the changes i said earlier tomorrow)

silhouette speaking i think you could boost her giving her some bigger shapes, for example extending the skirt like in the yoga pose or maybe having it happen on all the back if you don't want to interfere with the legs detail, one other thing that may help you is to identify a pattern and repeat it across your design slightly more (curved lines?, circles? arabesques?) now you have some triangles here some circles there and some incaves and spikes on the staff so maybe you can unify it a bit more, hope this helps! keep it up!

Following your advice @Pregium added some repeating patern in the shape of the scepter, gonna see what i can do for the clothes now

Finally able to upload something! Everything kept bugging all day, definitely not a good day
But back to the main subject, I enlarge the frame, moved the evil sister a bit out of the image, added some power effect and added more mouvement in the fabric (Still want to add even more tho xD ) what do you think ? Do you like it or maybe i should try something else?
