Term 6 - Composition & Storytelling - Assignment 1

never thought id have to do 7 paintings for a single assignment xd
anyways these are all not too finished and done in like 0,5-2hrs, didnt use references either, doing 7 of them still took time tho
also i took inspiration from Marcs small example paintings from the lesson video for all of them







was fun messing around a bit, not caring too much about how clean or correct the finished painting would be, am exited to put a bit more effort into my next piece tho : )

WOW These are Amazing!! it looks like you put so much effort into each of these! great job!

only critique i have is for the 2nd pic the arm holding the stick looks a bit too stiff, maybe a slight bend would make it look better

Term 6 - Composition & Storytelling - Assignment 2 (kinda)

heeeeey long time again. had an exam and injured myself and then suddenly had too much free time so all i did was sleep but i finally finished sum xd
i didnt fix the composition of an old piece (i started to actually but then realized i dont like full body action shots or whatever that was and decided to just not finish heh) but i did try to think about composition when drawing this, also tried a colour combination i wasnt sure would work, im kinda happy w the piece tho : )

also is it medusa month or something XD i keep seeing ppl post medusa all of a sudden, not that there's anything wrong with that haha

Term 6 - Mech Design

not my best i think but i gave myself a week to finish and i ofc slept instead of drawing multiple days but i finished somewhat xd
i do want to design a cool mech at some point tho, might do that one traditionally

oh also a quick environment study i kinda like

I liked how you simplified and blocked in your values for your environment study. They help solidify your sense of form and volume in your painting.

Term 7 - Materials

heeey materials study, metals are difficult TT

and a painting i did, but i might redo it as i didnt really use too much of that knowledge i gained from the material study

and some studies including a horrible quick portrait, but i think that if i can paint freely like this i can now try a more refined style again without getting too stuck on the painting, as that was one of my main problems : )

OOOH these material studies look amazing!

the lake/pond is a bit too white imo, which makes it look more like snow than a reflection (unless thats fog) but otherwise still looks nice

the portrait looks amazing as well!

I like the last sketch. The chara has an Adam's apple. Did you intentionally draw a person between genders?

haha i didnt even notice, it was an accident, tbh i dont know why i drew it like that, the reference doesnt have one xd

changed my workflow, not too sure if its better or worse, but i can add more details and its easier for me to focus on light theory and anatomy for example without getting too stuck on the painting and still feeling "free"

Do you mind if you can expand more in your workflow and what changes you made and why? Maybe other people can offer you tips to help you experiment around.

sure, i felt like finishing a single painting took too long, so i got tired of it and started overthinking everything that wasnt 100% realistic. then i decided to start painting on a single layer and not doing almost any linework at all. it helped me loosen up a bit and also paint faster, but now i feel like its hard for me to add details and i dont think enough abt light and colour theory, anatomy etc and the stuff i did looked unfinished, atleast to me. so on this one i did do linework and used a couple of layers, but didnt feel stuck on it. what im not sure about is if its what i want to continue with, i like the process, but im not sure i like the finished piece. ill try doing a painting with backround and all and see what it looks like/how i feel about it : )
