Inkpendude - My Art Journey (TERM 3)

Hey! I'm Javier AKA Inkpendude. a fellow artist and an a Pixel artist too.

let me introduce myself quick.
I've been drawing since I was 16 or 17 (I'm an now 25) and back then, Art was just a hobby. I explored different mediums such as graphite, charcole, watercolors and Ink. I guess I really loved the ink medium a lot, hence the name. but after going to school to study advertising I felt like I had to "give up" wanting to become an artist...that was until 2020, where I stared doing PIXEL ART and making illustrations for money such as album covers, banners, twitch graphics etc.

I think since it's clear now that I CAN become a succesful artist, I want to go back to drawing non pixel art stuff, learn anatomy and other elements to become a great illustrator.

I'm mostly active on IG, you can find me as @inkpendude (and pretty much everywhere with that same name)

I'll show you a few of my current drawing skills and recent work, just to see where i'm at right now.

My current goal is to have enough anatomy skills to be able to finish the Inktober challenge this year, and use those skills to draw some cool stuff. So I guess I'll be mainly doing the anatomy assignments.

More basic structure of the body. On the left is what I drew on top of the image, and on the right something I did Based on the reference. I also have been watching Proko's video on how to draw the ribcage and the pelvis, so I'm hoping to get a little bit better at that soon.

for now I struggle with proportions.

More of these. Drawing the body with boxes + line of action seems to be the best way so far. Not really a fan of doing the pelivs as a simple circle. I think I don't have much trouble drawing cylinders and boxes in perspective since I did a bit of the Draw a box course (Did not finished tho)

Also practiced the proportions assignment, and it's not too complicated and very easy to learn. although kinda hard to apply on different poses so..

Wanted to share some of my more noticeable progress in this assignment. N°1 was done a month ago, and N°2 was done just now. A month ago I was just trying my best using observation and tools, and since now I have a better understandment of the basic shapes and structure, I can observe a lot better, draw a lot faster (it just took me 20 min) and without "chicken scratching" the lines. Still not perfect tho, but perfect doesn't exist.

I've also been doing 30 min of gesture drawing. It's gonna be part of my daily routine, hopefully during this whole year. it helps a lot with observation and as a warm up. Here's a few of the most recent ones.

I still struggle with proportions. Sometimes the head is too tiny, sometimes is huge lol

I got sick this week, so I haven't been able to do much. but i'm still doing a few practice drawings a day. Really need to work on my observation skills a little more, and gesture.

I think I'll keep doing all the assignments, and at the end of the month I'll try to do a couple of proper drawings/ illustrations with what I've learn. Stay tuned

for a month, I've been doing a lot of daily gestures, bodies with boxes/cylinders, and using references to apply what I've learn. I think my only hard obstacle is not knowing how to draw the elbows or how to draw legs and arms properly. I'll get better at proportions with time, but I really need to get deeper into studying and learning muscles...

Learning how to draw the spine with some Proko videos helps a lot. I highly recommend that you watch some of his anatomy videos from like 8 ears ago.

Your work is awesome! Love the pixel art. Your basic skeletons look great, and I like how you go about studying from the reference, both observing the figure and tracing over it to identify the forms. I love your art style, looking forward to seeing how your WIP piece turns out!
