Both! depending on what I'm trying to do. I trace it first when I'm trying to understand the head before attmpting to do it myself...or I give it a try before, and trace it after to see my mistakes more clear.

And here it is! Almost a month after my first attempt, here is my little progress. Still not perfect or anything, but a win is a win.

I didn't wanna ink it yet, I'm still trying to figure how to ink faces in a good way, so in the meantime I did some basic shading.

Doing some Skull studies/ basic planes with the help and tips of HadesPsd on youtube.

Later on I'll do more in different angles and eventually do an actual drawing using the skills I learned. Here's the video in case anyone wants to check it out!

A bit more portraits (The first one is from imagination). Nothing perfect or outstanding of course, but it's nice to see I'm not as clueless as I was one or two months ago.

I'm still not ready to move on, there's still a lot I want to do, like a self portrait or more full body drawings. and in terms of volumes and shapes, I wanna see if I can start doing some more complex boxes and cylinders. maybe I could design some cool things with simple forms as a challege before this month ends. we'll see...for now I feel like I need a break, physically and mentally...Keep an eye open for more stuff.

Good job on those faces! no glaring mistakes that break anything, everything is solid
Also, never hurts to remind art is a damn long and tiring endeavor so recognizing you need a break is nice!

Honestly! trying to get good fast is never good for you! Patience is key here, and taking breaks is necessary.

Welcome to the forums inkpendude! Lovely work! I was just looking through your gallery and your practice really shows! One thing that may be helpful with these face traces and face structures is to really highlight the zygomatic bones on the cheeck, I feel like it is one of the most defining and important structures on the face and it may be worth defining it when you do these plane traces! Lovely work cant wait to see more!

Complex box of the day + getting comfortable with shading things with brushes. I mostly do that last thing as an excercice an not as a serious drawing or anythign like that.

Also, A couple of sketches for fan art. I'm not sure if these are gonna become full drawings yet, but I'm sharing the sketches and my process just in case.

I'm also gonna try to do this in pixel art too. I will share some of the progress of that too.
