I did a study for my next illustration! I didn't put much into getting the shadows right, but let me know if you see any glaring issues with the proportions and facial expression.

And here's some progress I made with my figure study painting. I'm trying to get a finished look with a textured brush. I feel like I'm out of shape with rendering, I can't believe how long this is going to take

Yeah I tried to push myself because I wanted to do commissions with a 2-3 week turn around but I'm not there yet.

I started doing color tests for one of my illustrations! Which one do you prefer the most?

I think the clown make up is fun but I don't know how well it fits with the narrative and the rest of the colors.

i like the clown makeup, to me it matches with the attire they are wearing (1900's carnival - atleast for the guy with the scissors.). hopefully I didn't just insult your drawing. haha. good work so far.

Oh no you did the exact opposite! This is meant to be set in ~1890 so I'm glad I'm setting that kind of mood. Thanks for the input!

I think overall I like "B" better, but there is something on about the standing character's make up here that is not sitting right with me. The one sitting down looks good, tho. And the work on the background in the second one also looks better

Bit late to the party, but I prefer B as well! Their color of their makeup on top of the rest of the environment works very well I think.

I have more studies and WIPS! I feel like I'm in WIP hell I feel like if I want to be a freelancer I'll have to juggle multiple projects so I'm building up my stamina now while there's little pressure.

For this exercise I drew a pose from my memory and then drew it again with reference to see what I missed. After taking notes I drew it again from memory, but I didn't include it because it would've messed with the format lol.

For the next couple of months I'll be focusing on one of my favorite mangaka. I'm keeping the name a secret until later These are some line/composition studies I did before starting on the main master copy.

I joined Istecrak's Patreon and for a previous assignment everyone had to paint a portrait without reference to test their knowledge and see what they need work on. I'm surprised I remembered a lot of general parts of the head, but when it can to defining specific things, like the eye lids, and adding shadows I struggled. And don't ask me about contrast. After getting critique from others I'll work on it a little more.

Wow! It's looking really good so far. The human head is so tricky for me to get right.

(I'm late, but I like the clowns, lol. Maybe not on the guy getting his hair done did, but I like it on the the barbers.)

Great work Lesley! I can clearly see the progress compared to the first one! I think you could add a little more shadow to the white part of the eyes - under the top lid and the corners especially, so the eyes will feel more like balls. But everywhere else your shadows and lights are amazing!

I followed one of Bobby Chiu's 90 MAC videos to start off the day. This was great because I was able to see how professional handle quick poses in real time and I didn't have to worry about getting refs Also, I modified a brush to look more like a natural pen and I love the way it felt.

I got the main flats done for the clown scene. Can't wait to start putting shadows down.

I also did a form/render exercise to experiment with different brushes. This taught me a lot about how to handle brushes with more textures and I'll definitely be doing more in the future.
This small course I found here on Cubebrush was really helpful with breaking down what rendering is and giving practical exercises.
