Man it's been some time! Glad maintenance is somewhat over, it's still a little wonky
Anyway, here's a referenced portrait I did-

This is the set up I used while painting this. I kept the greyscale and color photo up so I could compare the colors and values while I work.

AAAAnd I opened a sticker shop!!! I've been wanting to share this and the illustrations for so long but I wanted to wait until everything was set up.

What a progress Lesley! These stickers are perfect, I wouldn't change anything about them really! Portrait is very on point but be careful with soft edges, I feel it would pop even more with some harder ones for contrast 👍

@Frygidal I agree, it looks a little fuzzy

Here's a form study I just finished up. I really like experimenting with brushes since it's helping me understand how to get a more painterly effect. Using regular and soft brushes to support textured brushes really helps to clean things up. The technique still needs some work but I think I'm heading in the right direction.

Also, any ideas on this? I'm feel like I'm teetering between okay and uncanny with her face.
And the jacket feels off...

I'm using a different reference for the skin tone.

I think you are pretty darn close! The thing that jumps out to me overall is the line of definition between the chin and the neck. I think if you can emphasize that more it will help the read. Also maybe a tad darker with the skin folds around the mouth? I'm just getting into values myself but I would play with a darker recess for the fold to see how it looks. Fantastic work Lesley! Keep it up!

A) is definitely my favourite, it nails the ringleader vibe perfectly! C) is my second choice, the design is amazing!
Also congrats on the sticker shop, your sticker designs look super delicious!

I'm trying this new technique I learned from FIshman on Wing Fox. I made a collage, similar to matte painting, for the costume and I'll use it for a reference. I think Fishman just painted over the collage but I'd rather do a new painting right now. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
