Great job on the studies.
I recommend you studying the planes of the head to improve even more on the subject of the human head. I personally started with Angel Ganev videos, he uses kinda of a combination between Loomis and Reilly methods.

I also picked up the head book by Andrew Loomis. 100% worth it I really like that book tons of info. Keep up the great work!

That's extremely helpful.
The shading thing is probably something everyone struggles with at this stage.

Seems like a really helpful book, maybe I'll pick it up too in the future.

I'm just going to post a project which I've been working on since yesterday.
It's WIP and I really like how it came out so far.
Learning so much about art at the moment, it's a blast.
I'm also starting to grasp the concept of details since I have problems adding these sorts of things.
I'm still only using default like brushes for everything.

The continuation of my head proportion page.
Everytime I do these, I always find something new to keep an eye out for.
Next time I'm gonna do a complete page with heads and facial features.

Nice work! These keep getting better and better. Very nice work with the hair practice! I think this is what I need to be focusing on for next week. Also if you want to work on placement one thing Marc suggested to me was to just draw very simple features in to get their placement, but not worrying about drawing them in each drawing. So I do both, if I just want to work construction I just do blank features like an eye socket, line for mouth etc. Helps you get more constructions in a short time. The trade off is my features are not nearly as good as yours! So just another way to think about going at it depending on what you want. Don't mind me I'm rambling but maybe this is helpful! I try to be helpful but it can be difficult when everyone is so good!

Hair is so soothing to draw, everything flows so nicely it's really relaxing.
That's a really good thing to do actually, i've been focusing on getting the real deal on the page so I can improve my line quality and other techniques.
I know I will be spending a lot of time of portraits so getting better is only a matter of time ^^

For me, hair is really intimidatingly and stressful! I I just have so little experience with it, but I am getting there slowly! I pinned a bunch of anime figures to my pintrest for hair for the upcoming week, I think they will help me see the 3d shape more.

Ah don't stress it, if you draw a bunch from different references you will notice the improvement immediately.
Anime is a really good reference at that, all kinds of hairstyles and poses.

Hey guys, another week of portraits.
The first page are ones where I overlayed it after I finished them to see where I'm off without correcting it afterwards.

Now these two actually look human for once ^^
I made them step by step to see where the differences are.
Once I had all the facial features in place I overlayed the reference, did feedback and corrected them again.
Then I overlayed it one more time to correct it once again and make those final adjustments.
(I didn't really care about the hair so I didn't correct that)

I really learn a lot like this, so that's my method for now till I get better and better.

Next portrait week done!
I noticed that my biggest problem is putting facial features down in perspective.
So my next pages will incorporate different eyes/mouths and noses in perspective with hard construction.

All in all this week was successful!

Really nice work Luke! I found the hardest thing for me is placing the eyes correctly. I heard some good advice this week was to imagine the eyes are on a skewer. Like a kabob through the skull. I don't know if that makes sense but yeah it was helpful for me. Keep up the great work!

I find it really helps to do a rough sketch and then align the perspectives of all the facial features before going to a final ink. Great stuff though!

That's my problem too, I did some eyes but with construction after the post and they look so much better.
So yeah, need to do more construction and a lot more complex shapes into simple form break downs.
The skewer thing is pretty helpful actually, definitely need to try that one out.

This week was focused on construction.
Also did 2 other drawings with rendering for fun and variety.

I have one more page which needs to be filled with eyes and then I will move onto the next thing.

Awesome constructions! Eyes are looking great I can feel the kabob! Awesome job with the planes around the eye and eyebrow. Really fantastic stuff!
