  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

  • Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Very good studies!, Shading is fairly hard initially, but once you get that pen dexterity leveled up then you'll make progress fast!. And those little spidies are adorable!.

Thank you @CYP2C19 !

I did one more version of the spider, plus my game box:

I wasn't feeling super inspired with this one heh. I might work on it more if I have more ideas but this is it for now.

Here is my custom brush. this one was fun but I got a bit overwhelmed by the brush settings. is there a setting that locks in spacing? so it doesn't change when the brush moves vertically, so the horizontal parts never overlap? Maybe I just have to be a bit careful when drawing a fence using a brush, I mean going up a slope this steep is not a normal thing for a fence to do lol

14 days later

Started with the Anatomy 1 exercises:

Connecting volumes is surprisingly hard! I was trying to figure out the connection of the two cylinders and ended cheating a little bit with a 3D model.

I'll start with the compete head volume next, it says on the assignment sheet to do that until it's easy, but drawing circles still is not easy, all the head spheres on here needed a lot of correcting!

I did some more work on my tower, I want to use it in my perspective assignments:

These studies are looking really good and I like the tower design! Very cool adding the horse rider and other guy for scale

cheers

28 days later

Has it really been a whole month since I posted? man I've been too busy with other things and time flies. here are a couple pages of exercises that I did:

Yoo! Welcome back! Studies are all looking very good. A couple heads probably have a narrow chin.

Love the monkey!

Cheers

Thanks @snakker!

I did some more basic head constructions. I think I am starting to get the hang of this. although I still had issues, especially with looking up and down, the ones on the upper right ended up pretty wonky, the ones at the lower left are a bit better I think, but I think I will need to do reference studies to really get these right

And one more study

Nice studies! Yeah i think it was helpful to not only practice these head circles and lines by themselves but to apply them to practice studies like you’re doing, Keep it up and I’m sure you’re going to look back and see how it has helped!

Thanks @koalatycoffee and yes I think I am already seeing it, my studies are going a lot faster and needing much less adjusting after the initial construction now that I've practiced it, needing to use liquify and selections a bunch still feels a bit like I'm cheating after coming from traditional media lol

Here is my latest one, I can't remember if expressions are even part of the term 2 curriculum, but I do like how this one turned out. I think I will need to re-watch at least parts if the lecture before I attempt to replicate Marc's head drawing, it's already been a while since I watched it. I am also still a bit scared of painting for some reason

Nice job on the studies!

I think the smiling girl's left side is a little smaller - it does seem she has a bit of an asymmetry issue irl plus lighting and maybe a tiny bit of rotation is making her left side look wider but not as much as in the drawing. Do you start off directly with construction or do you do something else for initial measurements? I feel for me, blocking in a few lines to measure first helps

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback! I did begin with the construction, but I've realized that I've developed a habit of beginning to draw facial features over my construction lines on the same layer and then starting to erase the construction lines as I go. I think I'll try keeping the construction on it's own layer so I can keep it to refer to as I go. should be good to try that for my next studies to see if that helps.

For sure, I also tend to draw on a single layer and smudge out the construction as I start shading areas. I feel mixing some block in (just lines and dots to box in and determine proportions) with construction helps me get accurate results faster than construction alone, but your mileage may vary

Cheers

latest study, I did keep the construction for this one, and I think it helped a little, although somehow, the angle of my reference, the angle of my construction, and the angle of my final sketch all ended up different >.<

8 days later

These were my first time trying 2 minute gestures and I have to say at first I didn't even know what to do with the whole time...

and my 10 character head study, with references:

Great job on these studies 😃

13 days later

Some more gestures. I really like doing 2 minute ones. I think I still need to work on my en pressure discipline though, I still draw lines too heavy too early and I think that's why my gesture drawings keep looking more sketchy than I'd like.

These are my first attempts at drawing heads from imagination. I spent a bunch of time on these so I feel like I probably went blind to any issues there might be, so I'd love some feedback!

1st off, I really like your stuff! Your portrait studies are fantastic! Haven't had a chance to look through your whole blog yet but have really enjoyed what I've seen

As for your most recent post:
For your gestures, I think it would probably help to work lighter while searching for your forms and maybe simplifying the forms down would also help eliminate some of the sketchiness, as you wouldn't have to worry about capturing the nuances of the anatomy right away. I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with being sketchy with these studies at the moment but if you are looking to clean them up, then that's what helped me when I've done gesture drawings before.

As for the heads, the only thing that I can see is the eyes on the male figure on the left and then the far eye on the female on the right. The male's left eye is a bit bigger than the right eye, other than that I think its great!. Then the females far eye looks like it is almost pushing out of the eyelid, rather than being cradled by it. I think just adding a little more depth to show the upper eyelid wrapping over the eye ball will remedy it. Outside of that small detail I think you did great portraying that three quarter view and the added rotation. I've never been able to get that view right, but you've nailed it! Just awesome work!

Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!! Keep up the good work!!
