  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

  • Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Just another study. I noticed I few mistake I made in jaw. When I made the structure it was easy to put feathers. Usually I don’t do it

Whoah! This is fantastic! I am not familiar with shading like this but I really love how all your hatches follow the form and the contours. You can really feel the volumes on this and your values are on point! Really lovely work Nina! I think I am like you. I end up spending much time on each thing I do instead of doing many things but I think it all balances out in the end. Really nice work!

Fast sketches help to loose your art, your hand, it’s improve your workflow, It’s great exercise. And with time help you to draw faster. I had a foreign colleague in university and she said they had to finish a piece for a day. She painted really fast. In my university we have a piece for a week, 5hours 5days. That’s why I am trying it, but my paintings become ugly

8 days later

Very lovely work Nina! I'm on my phone so I can't see them side to side but the improved contrast on the second piece really helps the read. Nice work!

1 month later

Really lovely work Nina! You are far beyond my skill but I have always wanted to pay you back for all the help you have given me! I don't know if any of this is right, but I did a paint over of the sandwich.

When I looked at this my eye is really drawn to the bottom bun because the values are really high. To me based on the cast shadows it appeared that the light was coming from the top, so I reduced the values on the bottom bun thinking the cheese and meat would likely cast shadow on it, also hopefully drawing away some of the attention.

I added some extra AO and bounce light, but honestly im pretty new at all of that so I just did what I thought may look good. I reduced the values on the eggs just a little bit because to me they were drawing a lot of attention. My version may not be as vibrant and its probably not right but maybe it gives you some ideas and was fun for me to think about! Really lovely work as always Nina!

Thank you! I really appreciate this. I couldn’t balance the values. In the bottom bun has a reflected light from the plate, I aimed for that. I like how you did the egg. Your corrections are right. This hamburger was a lot of frustration for me. In the begging I started to paint this foods references because I thought they are easy and because I suffer from lacking of any ideas.
What is AO? I am really bad with abbreviations:D

Here is the reference if you are curious

I started this a while ago. I dropped it because I lost the likeness, the colours was hard to figured it out and because I lost the original file. I needed a time to drop the frustration and to overcome my irritation. Still it is not perfect but I don’t know if I will continue it yet. I stick too much to one piece

AO is for ambient occlusion! I love how you use your colors, they add so much to the piece! I like to do studies of things the most too. You did avery nice job with these! Lovely work on this portrait I really love the color usage! Really outstanding!

Some final touches. Mostly values changing. I call it done.

Quick study for 2 hours. I keep it simple. This is my second attempt for plain air art with tablet. I won’t show you the first, It is horrible  in my defence I stayed only 40min because it was freezing outside.

8 days later

I can't believe that I didn't stumble upon this hidden gem sooner. Your artwork is very realistic and vibrant. This particularly shows in your paintings. Although you call 'em studies, I call them a piece of art. Keep the fantastic work rolling!

16 days later

Well, I`m not the most serious one in this forum  Thank you for your kind words

10 days later

This is a little bit different than things I usually do. As I mention before I don`t like sketching... but I really gave here everything I could. The hardest part was to make the chest right in perspective.
So, I really could use some advise or criticism, they are always welcomed.
!!! Chickens and chest are from a game, they are not my design! I like environmental art more. Thanks in advance ^^

This was the beginning, I can`t believe I pushed it to this level  I needed around a 3 whole days.

There's so much to digest in this drawing, and it's hella cute. Good work!

Hi Nina! This is such a lovely piece! You should be very proud of yourself! I love the environment design and it is so cute! The only issue that I could see is with the perspective on the chest. The center of the chest is just slightly off on perspective. If you draw an X connecting each corner of the box, then a line to the vanishing point from there it will show you the center of a box in perspective, you can continue drawing these X's on each split half to further subdivide if needed.

It's a really minor thing and I didn't notice it until I pulled it up in photoshop so here it doesn't really bother. The chest is super well done and the thickness on all of the areas really adds so much and the curves look good to! Really well done here Nina! Keep it up! I want to meet this chicken!

Oh, I suspected it  but this is, maybe, the forth version of the chest, and I didn’t check it for a reason. Thank you for your time^^

I wouldn't change it at this point if it was me, it doesn't bother much it is so cute!

This is my progress so far. At this stage I decided the composition, the colours, the light, the majors problems. It was hard to draw the plant with long and thin leafs. When I draw it with colours it didn’t look good in the whole picture. I tried a few variations until I was satisfied. I could change the plant but I usually choose opportunity to learn something new.
Now it’s left to refine everything, polish it, I’m not sure what the verb was
CC are always welcomed.

ooh i really like your colors! the leaves came out so well!

that chicken is so cute XD

It’s done. In the begging I wanted to be simpler, but we can see how it turn out. I need to work over my workflow and lines but I’m happy with this piece

Loving this piece! Really love how this turned out! Great job!

Wow the colors are amazing, very painterly style I like it ^.^
Seems like you really know what you're doing with those colors. Using blue in a green plant and it looks perfectly good 😲👍
